GORDONCHICK Posted October 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2015 Is there a place to learn how to paddle board here? Since this is our beachy day, it would be a great time for my son and I to learn. DH has little interest in this. We usually just hang out at CocoCorona and play in the water early. Rare crewsweeper Posted October 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2015 I believe CocoCorona has closed. Check out YaYa Beach, they have paddleboards and I believe offer lessons. http://yayabeach.com/home.html

We definitely wouldn't get our money's worth. We don't stay long enough.

Rare crewsweeper Posted March 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2016 Look at http://www.undertoemexico.com Family run and awesome conditions to learn in with a protected reef...Trust me Yes that's YaYa Beach. And wile they have AI packages, you don't need to be AI to go there. They take "walk ins" . It's all open along the malecon, with exception of Nacional Beach Club (which covers their staying guest s but offers a day package for limited number of cruisers and Nohoch Kay where you need the AI through Island Marketing. I think Tequila Beach has paddle boards as well, but not sure about lessons. The water is shallow enough and generally calm a long ways out at YaYa to be a great spot to learn. GORDONCHICK Posted March 15, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted March 15, 2016 We ended up finding a great place and instructor on Roatan that worked out very well for us. My son did really well, while I did okay.
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2016 We ended up finding a great place and instructor on Roatan that worked out very well for us. My son did really well, while I did okay. Fantastic. For future reference to others, would you mind revealing the instructor/place in Roatan you used. SUPs are getting more and more popular. Thanks for coming back.

GORDONCHICK Posted March 15, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted March 15, 2016 Since this is the Costa Maya board, I wasn't going to post, but the company is Roatan PaddleSports (they are on FB also) and the instructor is Anita Tennyson and her daughter, Delanie - though we were only taught by Anita. We went to West Bay but they also have a stand on West End.
