Pookeybear1966 Posted October 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2015 I have 400.00 in Carnival gift cards I want to use instead of cash or credit card to secure my S&S account at the pier upon embarkation on our November cruise. Is this possible to do at the pier? I've heard conflicting answers such as 1) I can't and I have to secure with a credit card then go to guest services upon boarding to do it or 2) Yes you can at the pier. The 2nd one was my PVP telling me so I'm confused while another person I know tried to do it and she could not at the pier. Is it possible to apply these 400.00 to my S&S at the pier before boarding? Thank everyone!
firemanbobswife Posted October 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2015 You do not have to secure with a cc. I do cash accounts all the time - just select cash for your online check in. They wouldn't take them at the pier, but a quick stop at GS (thanks FTTF!), or the kiosks gets it taken care of.
manmachine Posted October 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2015 I had a lot of them... $2,500.00 worth. Secured with CC at port, then immediately on board, put the GC on Y account. Worked fine...
Pookeybear1966 Posted October 24, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted October 24, 2015 If you use a CC then they place hold. I don't want that. I guess I'll find out lol

Worked fine... I never give them a credit card. Just check "Cash Account" for online check in and then apply gift cards upon boarding. You don't hand them any cash at the port, anyway and then there's no cc on file so no chance for any erroneous billing after you've gotten off. vamartha Posted October 24, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2015 In POM and NOLA, we just told them at check in that we were using cash and they've directed us on to the ship to complete at either a kiosk or Guest Services. We've never given our payment info (paid cash or given our gift certificates) at check in. Nor have we ever had to put CC down at check in. On the other hand, I've always purchased at least some amount via Cruise Cash so we've always had a few dollars on our account at the very beginning. ZoeyVictoria Posted October 24, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) Do you have Carnival gift cards or general Visa-type gift cards? I remember reading that the general gift cards are not accepted. Hope I am wrong, but possibly a good idea to check it out. Edited to add: oops, I read that again and saw "Carnival gift cards" in the first line. Sorry, please disregard. bjd2 Posted October 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2015 Cruise cash will be on the account right away when you board. Gift cards need to be applied once onboard at either kiosk or guest services. You can tell the check in agent that you have cards to apply once you are on the ship. Violets Mommy Posted October 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2015 You can apply gift cards at Port Canaveral when you check in before boarding.
wantocruisemore Posted October 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 24, 2015 What happens if you apply carnival gift cards for your ss account and then you do not use the entire amount? Is the remainder refunded, and if so, do they send you another carnival gift card?

Is the remainder refunded, and if so, do they send you another carnival gift card? The technical answer is you get another gift card. However, I have cashed out both at Guest Services and in the casino.
Pookeybear1966 Posted October 24, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted October 24, 2015 Thanks everyone!! My online account I do have as "cash" so I'll just add them at the kiosk. Normally we use a credit card but I'm trying to stay away from them. And yes they are carnival gift cards
