We're booked here pre-cruise in January. We have not stayed here in a few years and I'm wondering if the area has been built up any since our stay. There was a strip plaza next to the hotel and some restaurants on the main road, but has the area improved (restaurant wise) and how far is it to some shops?? Last year we stayed at the Hyatt at Danica Beach and there wasn't even a safe in the room and there was nothing around there at all. Any information would be most appreciated!

We always stay at that Hyatt Place. The Harbor Shops are a very short walk away. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much the area has built up. If you go to their website it should tell you exactly what shops and restaurants are there. You will have much to choose from.

The area has been built up a little. There is only so much undeveloped land in Ft Lauderdale. There is now a TJ Maxx in Harbor Shops and a Ross across the street. There are a few boutiques and a Total Wine in Harbor Shops. There are many restaurants within blocks that opened in the last few yrs:

Market 17

Boatyard (new concept in older Bimini Boatyard)

Bistro Mezzaluna (older but relocated last yr)

Duffy's

Pei Wei

Gilberts

Shula Burger

Tiquana Flats

Chipotle

Joe's

Giorgio's

Carrabba's

etc

And lots of oldies but goodies:

Coco Asian

Kelly's Landing

Waxy O Connors

Bravo

Quarterdeck

5 Guys

Southport Raw Bar

etc
