CAS Points Questions

Well I think I screwed the pooch

I earned quite a bit of points on my last cruise. I don't know exactly how many because about 3 days in I cashed some in for free slot play.

On the last night I still have a few thousand but they said they were only worth a couple of dollars. Literally, like 3 or 4. I did miss the "turn in your points between x and y times" so that may have something to do with it.

After that I just turned in those points at a machine for the few bucks that it was worth.

So my question is do I not use the points AT ALL until the last night? Then talk to guest services to see if there's anything available?

Ughhh lol

Well Coolmeister, what you have raised is a very good question, that I don't know if anyone can answer, then again maybe someone can shed some light on it.

All I'm going to do is confuse it further by giving my personal experiences.

I have done 7 cruises with NCL since March 2013. Always as a guest of CAS.

I always played my points as freeplay before going to the players club on the last night to let them deduct whatever from my bill. Deductions have been anywhere from 110-240 dollars.

June, 2014 on the Getaway the Host said to me when I went to redeem points, "I could give you more if you hadn't cashed your points." I told her I don't care do what you can. She deducted 140 bucks or so. I was happy.

October 2014, back on the Getaway, I cashed points as freeplay, went to SAME HOST on last night to cash out. She remembered me from previous cruise, we had talked during the week, I had upped a level. She said again, "you cashed your points." I said "yes, whatcha going to take off, I know you can do it." She played with calculator and took off $240. This gal is a great host. Came to find me the first cruise, came to find me second cruise and very nice. She's my second favorite Host :)

December 2014 Dawn. Did the same thing I had done on previous 5 cruises, (this was number 6) most un-motivated hosts I have seen on an NCL ship.

NEVER seen them on the floor. Never visited anyone in my party. I go to cash out points and am told, "you don't have any, you cashed them out."

This trip I also had to go to them, when I knew I had achieved VIP status, to get the card and dinner. Never has this happened before. Hosts have always found me, and various people in my party, or complete strangers when they up a level.

September 2015, Breakaway, I cashed points as freeplay, went to Hosts on last night to see what they could do. Host looked up my account and said,

"I can't do much." Due to the wonderful promotion known as UBP the only charges I had on my bill, was a FCC, a few bar tips, and a pack of cigs every day.

He removed the cigs but said he couldn't do anything about the tips and FCC.

So here's a tip for Golden and VIP players....... charge a cigar or pack of butts every day, you'll get that perk back.

This same trip, I had a nice relaxed conversation with the CM on CAS comps. He said that other cruise lines are now copying NCL's CAS program.

I asked why CAS is cutting perks to players? Was told they have over comped for years. I asked why did they remove things that cost NCL nearly nothing?

Breakfast at Cagneys.

Cigs.

Priority disembarking, etc.

It got quiet........

So, if your still reading What'sMeister, things have and are changing IMO.

Or, depends on the host on the ship.

Or if it's a leap year.

Or fill in the blank............

Sorry to be so long winded but just my personal observations.

What'sMeister :D lol

Thanks for your observations GL....Seems I should have found and talked to the host. I'll know that for the next time..

I never planned on needing the host but I ended up playing way more than expected and earning/burning points as free play.

C'est La Vie :)

Bottom line.......

Yes if you leave points alone you will surely get some of bill removed.

However on six out of seven of my cruises, part of bill has been removed after cashing points out for free play.

I intend on doing the same thing I always do in February and will see what transpires.

YMMV

Standard disclaimers apply.

GL thx for your going over of each cruise and stating what happened

Basically same thing for me with few times where the host was no where to be seen as well and when I asked for a comped steak house they looked at me like I had 2 heads 😳. And I know my play and bets were well over what was needed and really shouldn't of needed to ask. But was told No 😳😳 I didn't qualify for that comp it was a crazy cruise n my hours of play were so screwed. Up it left a bad taste w me bout NCL

So I switched back to Carnival for now and have been getting Premier cruises lately with a free ocean view cabin

$1,000 casino cash, Free drink card, gifts each day and specialty restaurants and a casino party that has open bar n great appetizers

I'll prob cruise on NCL again if Carnivals not going where I wanna go but for now I can't beat the Carnival offers currently Plus the hosts have been great

Can I inquire what the high roller types play to get $1,000 FP etc? I'm guessing Slots, Not tables?

I'm mostly quarter & $ VP, and get CET NCL & CAS comp offers, but always for Inside cabin & never any FP.

Sailed on a CAS offer last year for Tourney,

but my CAS offers haven't been anything special over what I get thru CET.

Just wondering.....

Also, HOW do you get Carnival awards? Pay for cruise, and then get comp offers thru casino afterward??

We sailed Carnival years ago, (too many Mexico trips, we don't go there anymore), but since we get so many NCL perks thru CE, kinda gave up on Carnival.

Sounds like its gotten better though....... Thanks for input.....

I used to sail on Carnival, got the Premier Offers, etc... I found the VP on NCL to be better (more variety instead of just 10 coin single line $0.25 machines they have SuperStar machines with Ultimate X, 3 Play, etc). Also the payout on Double Double Bonus are slightly better at 7/5 vs 6/5 on Carnival. The thing I found with NCL/CAS is that I can go on pretty much any cruise for about $300 each for first 2 guests (and can work with Friends and Family Sail free, or UBP, or both). The Premier cruises are fun, but we were never drawn and the casino was always crazy. Trying to convert my parents from CCL to NCL this next year....we'll see how that goes..... Good luck!

On our recent cruise at about 9 p.m. the final night, our points had reset to zero. My wife and I each thought the other had turned them in. We were told by the players desk that CAS guests have the points automatically removed on the final night and applied to their OBC.

We got $150 towards our OBC for 7000-8000 points between the two of us. Just for comparison, that would have been $70-$80 free play had we cashed them ourselves. It also seems to approximately match what we got on our prior cruise: that OBC credit is double what you would get with free play.

Not always....on the Epic in March I only got about $60 on 5,000 points. On the Breakaway in June I got >$150 for 7,500 points...the main difference....I kept checking in with the hosts on the Breakaway to see where I stood for the week on theoretical loss etc. The guy on the Epic didn't seem to care too much....funny thing is, the guy who hooked me up on the Breakaway was on my Epic sailing, but I never did get to meet him....still depends on the host IMO.

Just called CAS to see what kinda deal I could get for next Dec 2016 for a 7 night Mexican Riveria cruise

Was Happy when I was told we could get a Ocean View Comped which comes with 2 of the Pkgs like UDP Or UBP plus the Drinks on us card n few other small things

There's 3 of us so Total for Ocean View which was port n tax fees, 3rd person fee, and I had him add in the gratuities they charge on the free drink pkg which was a new one to me but I'm glad he explained that even though the drink or specialty restaurants r free there's still automatic gratituities charged

With all that it came to $1,200 for the 3 of us in a Ocean View w the UDP N UBP

MINI SUITE w the same was $2,000 and a Penthouse suite was $3,200

Had him save that info so I can see what the Carnival Ultra casino specials going to be for 2016 and if it's including Mexico, which I hope, so I can compare the two 🍹🍹👍👍😜
