smoothy b. Posted November 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2015 Hello everyone. We are taking our first cruise on the Dream in February. We have chosen the Pride of Panama which visits Panama (obviously) Costa Rica and Columbia. Each country has its own currency. Having never cruised before we are not sure how things work. We plan to go ashore at each destination and whilst we wont need stacks of cash, we do anticipate needing a little bit for coffee, beers , small purchases etc. How would people advise we manage this?.. Is it possible to exchange for local currencies on board, or should we take U.S. $$ and exchange at the destinations.. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you. WeeCountyMan Posted November 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2015 US Dollars works all over that part of the world. Take small denomination bills - and make sure you ask for greenbacks in change.
geomagot Posted December 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 1, 2015 (edited) US$ accepted/preferred all over caribbean, apart from Havana (cuban pesos) there is an exchange desk in the terminal use sterling or euros for a better rate (they add a 10% fee to exchange US$) take small notes as usually you will often receive change in local (when in bars and markets) taxi drivers generally will give change in US$ tho cashpoints dispense local currency (apart from tortola which dispenses US$) hope this helps Edited December 1, 2015 by geomagot
