Fun fact. Jamaican in Jamaica speak slow. Jamaican's in NYC speak fast. Maybe because people speak fast in NYC. IDK, but I know Patois thankfully. I booked a tour with JL that was organized through FB. We met in the casino, got off the ship, met with the tour guide, and was on our way sight seeing. Palmer was our tour guide he is with Uton tours.

For the tour we went to St. James Parrish Church built in 1775, Richmond Hill Great House, went shopping, ate lunch, drove by Rose Hall Great House, and was rained out on the beach part.

 

 

 

It may be hot as hell in Jamaica, but there's always time for soup. My personal fav is Jamaincan Red Pea soup.

Shopping. I purchased some Jamaican Cream Rum. Delicious. I really wanted the coffee, but I felt that it was overpriced.

We drove by Rose Hall Great House and was followed by a storm. Everyone pretty much headed back to the ship soon after.

We were back on the ship early. I took a nap. Then headed to dinner.

 

 

 

 

I did not like my food. I was not feeling the food this time around. I ate the broth from the Minestrone Milanese soup and ate the pineapples out of the Shrimp Curry. The shrimp dissolved in my mouth and it made me nauseous. I have never had shrimp do that before. I swear.

Going on this same itinerary on the Breeze in a couple of weeks. Curious did you go on a ship sponsored tour and was it worth the money? We originally had Falmouth port scheduled and it got changed to Montego Bay and it's too far to go where we wanted to originally. Trying to figure out an alternative activity.

Going on this same itinerary on the Breeze in a couple of weeks. Curious did you go on a ship sponsored tour and was it worth the money? We originally had Falmouth port scheduled and it got changed to Montego Bay and it's too far to go where we wanted to originally. Trying to figure out an alternative activity.

 

The tour was through my FB group. Some people was unhappy because we didn't tour Rose Hall (it was $20 extra) and missed the beach because of the rain. I would say Montego Bay is a beach day. $10-$20 in a shuttle gets you to the beach and back to port. Margarittaville is in walking distance (2 NYC blocks) and the shopping is in walking distance also (3 NYC blocks from Margarittaville towards the beach). I had fun on the tour, but if your not into history it is not worth it. Matt mentioned Ziplining; I would consider it now. Also the trip to Dunns River Falls is worth it I hear. Even my primary care physician recommended it. He said $80 was a steal through Carnival.

I haven't done Dunn River through a cruise, I went on my honeymoon. We were staying in Ocho Rios and it was quite a drive from there. Seriously think about the drive, roads are scary in Jamaica and drivers are too. BUT, it is definitely not a destination to be missed, its BEAUTFIUL. Be warned that there is a "bazaar" as soon as you come out of the falls that you must walk through to get back to the bus lot. The locals are EXTREMELY pushy and do not take no for an answer. They will follow you pushing their goods. I hate this part of Jamaica. If you don't like high pressure sales, be forewarned, its terrible.

@13cheermom - Dunn's River Falls or the beach is a good plan. I walked in to Margaritaville and walked out because of the crowd. Everyone must have went in there because of the rain.

Solo is the way to go. Thank you for sharing that you are a Type II diabetic. It's so hard to all of a sudden change all of you eating habits. Even if your not overweight ( I was not when I was diagnosed) its super hard. People think that you just cant eat sugar, but it's pretty much every carbohydrate, desert, and simple sugar on the planet. You will enjoy your time. Just make good choices and don't forget your meds (I wrote a note in my phone to not forget my insulin, lol what a shame).

This was my second favorite port.

 

 

 

So we pulled into port pretty early. I was up at about 7am and ran to the Lido for coffee and breakfast. We were supposed to be ready at 8 am. Once again I had something healthy; Raisin Bran and coffee (the goal was not to gain weight or go into a diabetic coma, so I started eating things that I would normally eat at home). I flew to my room when I heard Matt on the PA. I grabbed my bag and went downstairs to the tender. Withing five mins I was on the tender. I don't know if that was supposed to happen. I did NOT have faster to the fun. It was a little scary getting on the tender. They pull this slide thing to connect the boat to the tender. The boat moves, the tender moves, the slide moves. DO NOT LOOK DOWN!

Hopped in a taxi for $5 to the beach. Next stop Calico Jack's.

So there were three stops on the taxi. The first stop was a private beach. The taxi was $4 and the entrance was $2. The second stop was $5; which stopped at Calico Jacks. The third stop was $6; which was cemetery beach. Cemetery beach is for snorkeling only. There are no beach restaurants or tourist attractions that way. The bus ride was tight and comfy. We arrived at the first stop in ten minutes. The bus driver said he would never pay for a beach; so naturally I stayed on. We arrived shortly at Calico Jacks's. I quickly signed on to the free WIFI and contacted my family.

 

 

 

 

I was posting on FB and ran into another solo traveler Ms. R. She grabbed a chair before I did. I sat with her. The chairs were $5 and the umbrella's $10. I did hear those prices go up. It seemed like some people with fairer skin were willing to pay $15 for the umbrella without question. So they did. I learned from NY to always haggle. Ms. R and I became hungry so we shared some fish. I believe Grand Cayman's rate was 1.25 the US rate. This platter cost $22 US with tip already included

 

 

It was nice and crispy; so that took the pain away a bit. The coleslaw was the bomb.

 

 

Do not forget your water shoes. There were small rocks in the water. Nothing major, but I could not risk cutting my foot. I have a fear of getting my feet cut off (its a diabetes thing), lol but seriously.

There were plenty of water sports available; including this one.

 

 

We had to be back on board by 3pm so Ms. R and I left the beach at 1pm. The taxi was $5 back to port. We walked around and enjoyed the view.

 

 

I was dying for a coconut and found this guy. He cut it open and said it was $5. I told him I only had $2. He took it. A girl walked behind me and asked him how much and he said $4. Not very nice of him to try and over charge me. He didn't know I was from NY. I def had more than $2. I was known by some on the ship as the $2 coconut girl. LOL. There were only two good sips in there!!

We went to the shopping center. There was a Margaritaville with a shop inside and another shop next to it. I decided to collect refrigerator magnets. I found a reasonably priced one in the other shop for $5. Margaritaville wanted $7 and up.

 

 

 

 

Back to the tender!! Boy did I get dark! Loving it though!!!

Ahoy Mate!! It took about ten mins for the tender to get itself right for us to get off. I don't know why, but the water was a bit rough. There was a tender waiting right next to us to pull up also.
