Bus to Ffryes beach

We just recently took the #22 Bus from the West Bus Station in St. Johns(Google map it). It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the pier(s) where the ship(s) dock.

The buses on Antigua are air conditioned motor coaches(unlike vans on other islands).

Just ask the bus driver to drop you off at the road to Ffryes Beach. I would also ask him what the closest bus stop(on the other side of Valley Road is) for when you're ready to return. I'm pretty sure that it's possible to just flag down a bus as well. The buses run fairly frequently on weekdays, but you may want to ask the driver how frequently.

The walk from Valley Road to the beach looks to be about a 10 minute walk.

We originally wanted to go to Ffryes for our day in Antigua, but the restaurant(Dennis) we were hoping to lunch at is closed on Mondays -- The day that we were there.

So, we opted to go to Darkwood Beach instead.

Taking the bus was easy and seamless. Our driver was friendly and helpful, and the best part was that it was only around $1.50 USD(4 EC) each way per adult to/from the beach.

Skai- How did you like Darkwood...we are planning our day there...

We liked it. On a previous visit to Antigua, (after a private taxi-tour to Nelson's Dockyard/Shirley Heights) we spent the afternoon at neighboring Turner's Beach. We also liked it there as well.

We chose not to eat at the restaurant at Darkwood, but we did order a few local beers/drinks from the bar. They rent beach chairs(w/ shade provided), though we just plopped a couple towels down and were fine with that.

When we first arrived, we got approached a few different times by vendors trying to sell Jet-Ski rides and a few other products, but after we politely declined, we were essentially left alone for the rest of time.

It was a gorgeous day when we were there. The water was great and it made for a nice beach day for us. There were a handful of other people there, but it wasn't that crowded. Being able to take the local bus right to the beach and back was also very convenient. We ended up eating a later lunch back in St. Johns.

We don't need much for amenities, but the DW is happy when there's a freshwater shower available to rinse off and changing rooms to get into dry clothes. Darkwood has both of these - but one may have to ask a restaurant/bar attendant to turn on the water for the shower if it's not running.

If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them for you.
