Jade in Houston Tonight?

The Port of Houston has issues with fog. The ship could have come back early due to it. I was on the Jewel last March and we got back to port 18 hours ahead of schedule due to the fog. Our Captain was afraid the port would be closed by morning and they wouldn't be able to dock. All passengers had to remain on the ship. The bad side of it was the casino and shops were closed, and the extra tax on liquor that Texas imposes.

Just noticed that the Jade was in port tonight, but isn't scheduled to be in until tomorrow...any information about this?

Just got off the phone with Norwegian Jade customer support. They said there are no issues, it's scheduled to let passengers off at 8am. He said that the ship made good time on the sea (probably means weather was good enough) so they came in early. He didn't indicate any weather delays that would affect tomorrow's mornings planned passenger unboarding,or weather having to so with it coming in earlier than normal.

I hope they don't do this on our Jade sailing next month. If they were making such good time, with no worries of bad weather tomorrow, why wouldn't they just slow down to save on gas and port fees?

A limited drink selection plus liquor taxes is no big deal for me during sail away, but for the whole last night of my cruise it would annoy me.

On the plus side, I'm excited to read the new crop of reviews tomorrow morning. Hopefully some of those Jade passengers will use the time they would otherwise be drinking or gambling to get a head start on their reviews!

The port of Houston and the port of Galveston were not fogged in today but......a bit farther along the coast from Freeport down to Port O'connor dense sea fog did develop this morning.

The last three days had had fog each morning somewhere in the greater Houston area so it the possibility probably did enter into the captain's decision making.

I am skeptical that it came back early just because they made good time, and not because of weather/fog. Why would they want to lose out on revenue from the casino and shops on the last night? It looks kind of foggy on the Bayport webcam this morning.

Fog is one of the negatives of the Houston/Bayport and Galveston ports.

I just got off the Jade this morning. The reason we were told that we would arrive early was that there was a forecast of heavy fog for Saturday. So to avoid passengers missing flights because of a late arrival and passengers on the next sailing being delayed, the captain decided to get back to Houston as quickly as possible. The sea was smooth and we made really good time and pulled into port at about dinner time on Friday evening. Essentially, the ship in port was our hotel for the night and we were able to leave this morning at around 7:30 a.m. when Customs was ready to process the passengers. On Friday night the shows went on as scheduled, but the casino and shops were closed and the bars had to use the limited selection of liquors that complied with TX laws. It looks like fog would not have been a problem, but from NCL's perspective it was better to be in port than potentially getting delayed by fog.

Do you have a picture of the limited drinks menu that you could post here or on the Everything JADE thread? Or do you remember what was on it?

How long did it take to go through customs. We have a noon flight next month and thought we had best do a walk off and catch a cab asap. Any information would help. What cabs are at the docks?

Walk off started at around 7:30 a.m. and the line was not too bad and we were in the customs area at about 7:45 and drove out of the parking lot by 8.

There were lots of cabs at the pier - looked like a variety of cab companies so getting a cab should not be a problem. As we were leaving the port area we even noticed a holding area where more cabs were stopped waiting to be allowed to go to the pier.

We walked off from the front of the ship (theater side) on deck 7 and they had two machines going to check you off the ship and the line moved quickly. From the stern it looked like only one machine and a much longer line. If the ship has no fog issues and gets to port on schedule, a noon flight should not be a problem.

In response to the question about the limited drinks menu - from what I remember, it included national brands of beer and Shiner, a few wines, and mixed drinks. What seemed to be missing were the more expensive brands of liquors, but when the ship got offshore at night everything was available.

We got off the Jade yesterday as well. Customs was quick and painless.

We had an 11:45am flight out of IAH, and got there with more than 2 hours to spare.

How did you get to IAH? I've got a 1pm flight and have been worried but I think I'll have plenty of time.
