NCL Dawn

We just did the Dawn CTN last month. I took my mom and we had a blast. It was short but sweet. The crew was absolutely nice. Food at Cagneys was great. We ate at Bamboo. Food was free but not very good. I ordered the extra lobster for my mom. The one we got hardly no meat. Paid 24.99 or something like it. The waitress even commented on it. The manager came by took one look and got us another one with no charge. Haha. Service was great all around. Ship in good condition. We also booked the Dawn 9 days for next year!

Um Biker@sea, if the Dawn is at the bottom of the "barrel" as you say, how come you sailed on her 16 times. Can't be that bad if you keep cruising on her. I've been on her three times and will be again in August, can't wait.

1 and done.

Had one cruise reward left. Used it for my one and only cruise this year.

Did not buy another.

She's gotta be kinda bad for NCL to be sinking $50,000,000 into her next dry dock don't ya think?

Can you name an NCL ship in worst shape. If she not bottom of the barrel what ship NCL ship is?

Dawn use to be at the top off the satisfaction rating chart "hero cards" on I 95 .

She ain't now!!

We got off the Dawn yesterday and had a good cruise. Yes ship is a little worn but its very clean. Our room, junior suite, was great. Entertainment very good for a smaller ship. Ate in spec restaurants every night and enjoyed them all, esp Cagneys and Moderno. One tip - if cruise weather looks to be cool or rainy, get the Spa Sanctuary pass, it's well worth it for recliners, jacuzzis, lap pool in back. We lived there when not in port. [emoji41]

Where did you get that information? In the USA Today article that was discussed here a few weeks ago, that was the budget mentioned per ship for upcoming refurbishments across the entire fleet. Not specifically for the Dawn.

First of all, if you insist on doing a complete ranking of the fleet, some ship has to be at the bottom of the list. And it would make a lot of sense if the Dawn (and POA) turned out to be in the worst shape, after all they are the ones scheduled to be refurbished next.

But being in the worst shape relative to the rest of the fleet does not imply being in bad shape in absolute terms. The Dawn looked fine to me this summer. But everyone is free to set their own criteria about this. Given your recent cruise history, I am unsurprised that you seem to have burned out on the Dawn.

??? The article sez 50 million per ship ??

Just tryin to tell the OP not to expect the cream of the crop. They are coming from another line to NCL for the first time and NCL does have better to offer.

When I was on the Dawn this year it looked great to me. The carpeting didn’t look worn, the theater seats were in great shape, dining rooms looked great, and the exterior of the ship looked beautiful. Was she without flaws, no but they were all minor. The way some folks talk about the Dawn you would think she looks like a 100 year old riverboat.

Great pics of the Dawn..we cruise on her in 27 days. Does she have an adult only pool?

No adult pool but considering the time of the year, your cruise probably won't have many kids.

A few more pics taken on our Dawn cruise this year. The only thing I didn't like about the theater was the lack of drink holders on the arms of the seats.

The casino was in great shape too.

I enjoyed the nighttime lighting on the Dawn.

We just got off the Dawn as well and I was impressed. The crew keeps her immaculate and the crew itself is superb.

She does show some wear, but as I said the maintenance and housekeeping is on top of things. I wouldn't hesitate to book her again either before or after dry dock.

My understanding is besides aesthetics, they will be updating the computer system to give guests a more interactive experience as found on newer ships.

Last week and the previous cruise they had problems with the zpod system which was recently updated, necessitating an engineer being flown from Germany to Belize to work out a control issue. The propulsion system was back to 100% when we left her.
