miel0630 Posted January 19, 2006 #51 Share Posted January 19, 2006 But there are no rules that state you can't go to both of the Captain's Cocktail Parties!! (they have one for the early seating and a second one for the late seating) Bring on the free drinks!! Also, you can request any drink of your choice just by asking the waiter/waitress politely. They usually serve mixed drinks, but for example, DH always asks for a beer instead and gets it every time! Also, we didn't know it on our first cruise, but room service is completely free, so order away! We found this to be especially nice for breakfast the day that we visited a port. (be sure to tip $1-$2) It may sound corny, but I really look forward to the towel animals that the room stewards create each night! This is something that Carnival does for its guests. I always save each of the little critters and put them in the corner table every night and then I take a photo of all of them the last night! kenandlaura06 Posted January 24, 2006 #52 Share Posted January 24, 2006 Hi, we always take our own sea sick tablets, but you can get them for much less in the pharmacy, Mecalzine is the same exact thing as Bonine. In a Bonine package you get may be 8 tablets for $6 or $8 dollars. You just go to the pharmacist and ask for over the counter generic bonine which is Mecalzine and you get probably 100 tablets for about $7 or $8 dollars, much more cost effective. And it works great , no seasickness, no drowsyness. Just ask your local pharmacist.( can't get it at walmart) Cori Good tip about the Mecalzine! Lthouselady Posted January 24, 2006 #54 Share Posted January 24, 2006 What I've heard about the souvenier glasses is that many people don't realize that they have paid for the glasses when they buy the drinks. So they finish the drink, put down the glass, and leave the area. I don't see any problem with some resourceful soul taking those glasses home. The cruiseline has already been paid for them, the person who paid for it abandoned it as trash, so it seems like fair game to me!!! I do wonder though if the cruiseline normally just washes those and re-sells them to the next unsuspecting thirsty cruiser?!?!?!
terrytallent1 Posted January 27, 2006 #55 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Don't know if they still offer funny money for participating in different exercises (walking, etc) but we got a couple of sports towels, water bottles etc with very little effort. westernmom Posted January 27, 2006 #56 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Do they offer free drinks in the casino like they do in Nevada???? Thanks for all of the tips. Carnival Triumph - May 20!!!!
Jane110 Posted January 28, 2006 #57 Share Posted January 28, 2006 Do they offer free drinks in the casino like they do in Nevada???? Nope, not on any of the ships I've been on - which surprised me. I thought it was standard practice for a casino. Jane Celebrity Princess Oceania HAL
phredt Posted January 28, 2006 #58 Share Posted January 28, 2006 I do wonder though if the cruiseline normally just washes those and re-sells them to the next unsuspecting thirsty cruiser?!?!?! I'm sure they do. If you order a refill, they take your old one and give you a new one for the refill price. So they must wash and reuse them. Guienevere_Arianette Posted October 31, 2006 #60 Share Posted October 31, 2006 Some lines offer free playing cards and post cards of the ship at the purser's desk. The casinos will usually give you a lanyard if you ask. Champagne is served at the art auctions, as well as a complimentary art print. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres are served complimentary at the Captain's party. Ship's logo corkscrew can usually be obtained by your cabin steward. Steward will also replenish your amenity basket if you ask. I have found that all lines do not offer comps, but most do. Can't hurt to ask.:) I notice that there are many art auctions on the Carnival ship; free champagne at all of the auctions? Hmm....:p
Barbara Hornblower Posted October 31, 2006 #61 Share Posted October 31, 2006 Last time we were on HAL, we got free totebags for our first port day. Yes, everyone onshore can identify you as being from the ship (don't they know already), but I have to tell you, after 2 years of using (and washing them several times), those are some kind of sturdy bags. Looking forward to getting some more in December! Keep the free tips coming...my husband is like a little magpie, picking up all freebies anywhere and everywhere. ;)

samtig Posted November 16, 2006 #64 Share Posted November 16, 2006 When we cruised on Norwegian Sun, we ordered drinks in souvenier glasses. The bar tender asked us if we wanted the glasses boxed to take home. We told him yes, so he boxed 2 glasses & gave us our drinks in other glasses. Made carrying them home a lot easier. 6inptc Posted November 17, 2006 #65 Share Posted November 17, 2006 I started the Diamonds International Charm Bracelet a couple of cruises ago. It is a cute momento. We try to make sure we see some different port on every cruise. DI is generally easy to find. You can go to the DI website and see the whole set of charms. Is this the one? sblois Posted November 17, 2006 #66 Share Posted November 17, 2006 The sauna and gym are free in the spa area. On some Carnival ships there's also a hot tub in the spa that's adult only and not many know about it...:)
crock921 Posted November 20, 2006 #67 Share Posted November 20, 2006 when you say some ships will comp you, are you referring to comps based on gambling? what kinds of comps have people gotten?

cruisinbuddy Posted November 22, 2006 #69 Share Posted November 22, 2006 Actually on Carnival this isn't exactly correct. The first drink bought with a specialty glass is about $3 more than the "small" drink without the glass. But refills are only about $2 more than the small, and you get twice the drink. For instance, the drink fo the day special is $2.95 for a small in a plain glass, and $6.25 for a large in a specialty glass. The refills on the specialty glass, though, are just $4.95. So if you drink enough, you save money. :D Well I guess I'll be saving a lot of $$ then.

ILikeDollars Posted November 27, 2006 #71 Share Posted November 27, 2006 If you travel on Celebrity, they give you a free cotton beach bag when you get to the first port. We used it the rest of our vacation. We asked for a second one of these and our cabin steward was happy to oblige (for free) - great souvenirs. rvalent2 Posted November 28, 2006 #72 Share Posted November 28, 2006 Hello. What do you do to get your name in the drawing for the cruise they announce right before deembarkation, is it just filling out a comment card?
Rare KKB Posted November 28, 2006 #73 Share Posted November 28, 2006 Hello. What do you do to get your name in the drawing for the cruise they announce right before deembarkation, is it just filling out a comment card? Got a free tote & a bottle of champagne! Seems like there was a coozie & a cruiseline pin in there, too.
