Upgrades

When do you request upgrades? Like say we have paid off our cruise but close to sailing we want to pay to upgrade to an oceanview cabin. Do we request to do that if possible when we check in or do I check with my travel agent prior to departure? I really would like an oceanview but when we booked the 2 insides were more reasonable for me to pay for me and my 4 kids.

You do it at any point before sailing. Check the prices via a mock booking or fareviewer, etc.

 

Do NOT expect any upgrades available even for fee at check in.

 

You may get a call from the 'upsell fairy' - offers to upgrade at a reduced rate - but that's not likely.

 

Just watch prices and if you see an upgrade that is at a price you like, do it.

I've had my best results calling after final payment due date. That's when cabins usually open up (Either by those that give up their reservation or TA's that had a block of rooms that they didn't get all sold). If you booked through a TA I think you may have to go through your TA.
