Norwegian Fjords

I will be on Navigator cruising Norway in August. Two of the ports are Flam and Skjolden in the Sognefjord over 100 miles inland. Would the Casino/duty free shops be open when in the fjord? Thinking that the ship needs to be 12 mile offshore for them to be open. Thanks for any answers.

They will probably open around 7pm while in port, unless there is some strange law there

I have been to Flam three times and have sailed the Norway coast from Bergen to the Russian border and back (on Hurtigruten), but have to confess that I don't know the answer to your question. HOWEVER, Norway is not a gambling friendly country (banks in Norway can not accept credit card charges for their customers from any casino in the world). Furthermore IME the norm around the world is no gambling while in port, although there are some exceptions to this. IMO it would be strange if Norway did allow gambling on ships in their territorial waters, and even stranger if they allowed it while docked. I'm sure others with actual experience will weigh in here (and may prove my hunches wrong:eek:).

Shops and Casino can be open also while in the fjords when the ship is not docked or anchored in any port.

Hey, we sailed Norway last year. No, casino was closed as normal. Opened once we had sailed out a bit.

Casino maybe closed (not my focus) but shops are open while travelling through the fjords.
