Snorkeling with young kids (Ages 4 and 5)

We are a group of two adventurous families traveling with 3 kids ages 10, 5, and 4. Our plan for Belize was to book a snorkeling excursion (likely the Shark Ray Alley/ Caye Caulker one with Coral Breeze) for the day.

We are now having some second thoughts as to whether this is a good idea. The 4 and 5 year old were going to be booked as tour observers with the idea that one adult would stay on the boat with them at all times. In shallower waters we would allow them to get in the water and swim around with flotation devices. They are both used to swimming in pools and have been on small boats before.

The main concern for us now is whether this is just too much time for the kids to be on a boat and whether there will be any shade on board? Does anyone have experience with taking kids on a similar excursion?

Thanks
