Taxis at Ports Marseille, Genoa, Palermo, Valetta, Civitavecchia,

If we decide to go it alone, are there taxis at these ports to either take a tour or drop us in town. Or are there people selling excursions or a tourist information office with free maps and guides, Don't fancy carrying weighty books around. Getting a bit anxious that if we don't do a pre booked excursion, that we will be stranded in the middle of nowhere
