Not to be overly picky but the original posting shows as May 29 & Infinity arrived in Victoria at 7AM May 29, having left Vancouver Friday May 28 at 5PM. This vast array of wisdom was garnered from being onboard! It was a great intro for us to Infinity which with exception of a minor item or two, we much enjoyed.
Hope to do South America on her *one day*.

Warm Regards & Happy Cruising,
Ciao Holly

Not to be overly picky, but the original post was "posted 05-28-04 09:00 PM " (they must use east coast time) not May 29

Hope you had a good cruise.

Never have been able to figure the times on posts. Guess that was the discrepancy. Think I did mention that didn't I? Apologies if I did not.

Actually checked back to the original. It shows as being posted at 10AM May 29. (at least on my screen)and thus the confusion.

Either the clock on these boards is as mixed up as the search function or the board is hosted waaaay far away. If the latter, I'd be interested to know where in order to find the posting times less confusing.
You don't have your location noted Gull so can't make adjustments based on that info.

Hi BSeaBob !

Cute name.

quote:
How did the boarding go in Vancouver. Info I have is that boarding does not start until late??? due to manpower availablity of US Customs and Immigration.

Boarding was AWFUL. Worst I've ever experienced - and a source of much embarassment being this is my (our) home port. Over two hours of standing in line followed by sitting en masse in chairs.

Never saw customs so can't be blaming it on them I'm afraid. Cdn citizens going from Van to Vic back to Van - all Canadian ports. Nada Customs.

The story I got was Celebrity decided this would be a marvelous time to start a whole new (read untrained)crew to handle boarding. True or not, I don't know. If so, veeeerrrreee bad idea IMHO.

Holly's New Boarding Plan:
Arrive very early or very late. Do not arrive at the time stated on documentation. More than one crew member told me they let people on waaay earlier than the time stated. One may not get into one's room immediately but certainly you can get on the ship, eat, snooze, wander, have cocktails . . . whatever it sure beats standing/sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting. Didn't board in Vancouver, sailed there from Honolulu. But the Vancouver airport was the worst we've ever experienced. Had three hours from the time we exited the Infinity and got to our gate 10 minutes before boarding an on-time plane. The luggage-checkin-customs-security gaggle was just terrible! And this was after lots of people were bused to Seattle instead.
We were going through the lines with Royal Car and HA passengers in the same boat. It wasn't the cruiselines' fault in anyway. Just an awful system.

just home from Inside Passage via Infinity. Cruise was wonderful as was three days pre-cruise in Vancouver. However, Vancouver airport on Sunday am was a nightmare. At least 2 hrs to clear Customs/Immigration. No directions. People in wrong lines. No instructions, etc. Worst part of the cruise.

Doesn’t sound like anything changed from Infinity’s first cruise last year from Vancouver. It took hours to board, partly because of the SARS screening and partly because no one from the Port seemed to know what was going on. Once we actual spoke to a crew member things went much more quickly.

But it was a GREAT cruise.

Thanks for posting the site. Is there a reason they always put the cams in the internet station? I think it would be much more fun watching people in the lounges or the buffets.

Hi Fairy Floss,

Infinity usually docks at Canada Place. The following link provides a calendar which shows which ships are at which docks each month.

We had no problem boarding Infinity last week for the May 30th sailing because we got there early around 12:45 and had concierge class. Some of travel companions thought that arriving at the pier later would be bettter and they had to wait over two hours. We left Vancouver on Monday instead of Sunday butmit was still a two and one half hour wait to clear customs and board. So in any case get to Vancouver Airport ASAp.

Just returned. Great cruise. CC select and elite members easy on. Others up to 3 hrs waiting to board. Quiet a shambles and the delay is US immigration. They start at noon wasn't enough of them. etc.etc. there are of course two other large ships boarding at the same time. There is no solution. If you do not have CC level to board early......do something else all day and come late.
