Hotel In San Juan

Recommended Posts

In March, some of our party stayed at the Marriott Stellaris Resort in Condado district and others at the Caribe Hilton. Both hotels were equally nice and convenient to the Golden's pier.(10 min) None of the hotels provide a shuttle that I know of. Taxis are cheap and plentiful.

Hi MiracleL:

I am from San Juan and maybe you can look at the Sheraton Hotel (it was before Wyndham) in Old San Juan. The other one is the Milano Hotel that is not a big one, but it is in Old San Juan and very cozy and maybe it is good for one night.

I work with a company that gives services to passengers and crew members of the Golden Princess so I hope you like our island and the ship.

Have a nice trip

due to the increase in gas prices, most hotels no longer offer shuttles (airport or pier). We are sailing on the Golden dec 17th, and we are also flying down 1 day early, staying at the embassy suites in Old San Juan, minutes from the airport and a short ride to the pier. Why did we choose embassy suites you may ask? Because of the location, the managers cocktail party in the evening, the free made to order breakfast, and we are hilton honor members who never had a problem with e.s.! Have a fun trip, maybe we will see ya as we disembark (sad but extremely tan, and full)

Hi, we are on the Golden in March also. Below is a link to the Canario Hotels.

We are staying at Canario by the Sea. It is in the Condado district which is nice with shopping, beach and restaurants nearby. I do not think they have shuttles. It is a small hotel and if you do a search under Carario by the Sea, you will find some good reports. We are paying $129 as I wanted a queen sized bed. :)

I sent them an email with a couple of questions and they were very responsive. You can do the whole thing online.

My husband and I are booked on the Golden leaving San Juan Dec. 24. We're leaving a day early, Dec. 23. Anyone have recommendations on a nice place to stay? Maybe one that offers a shuttle to the pier.

Thanks

El Convento is really a neat place to stay, I believe it is a Radisson now. I heard some bad about the Sheraton in April 2005, because they were remodeling and had a lot of noise and construction going on. I agree with the taxi opinions.

Have a great cruise!

We haven't stayed there yet - but recommend the Hotel Milano based on the reports on tripadvisor .com. We're booked there for one night pre-cruise in Jan. It sounds just like what we want - a friendly, no frills (except rooftop restaurant and free continental breakfast), hotel right in the heart of Old San Juan with very reasonable prices. Last year we stayed at the Wyndym Condado - and although nice - we never used the beach, pool, or casino - spent most of our free time in OSJ. We liked the atmosphere, ambiance, and shopping in OSJ (personal opinion) - lots of beach time once on the cruise. Loved dinner at the Parrot Club just down the street and met some nice local friends.

We are also sailing on the Golden in March and flying in the day before. We got a good rate $109 (AARP Rate) for king size bed and continental breakfast included at the Hotel Mirimar. From the website it looks nice but haven't found anyone who stayed there and could comment on this hotel. Oh well, it's only for one night!

Last time we were in San Juan we stayed at the Best Western Pierre Hotel - very nice - try to get a room by the courtyard. You get a small patio with a table and 2 chairs and a lounge chair. You can walk out to the pool. The price was $155/night. No shuttle though.

Hi,

Better hurry - it's Christmas week there & probably very busy. We love El Convento - have stayed there 4-5 times before cruises. It's in the historic old town area. Taxi from the airport is about $45 and to the pier about $25. It all depends on what you are looking for - no beach, but historic area & classy hotel!!

Enjoy

That sounds a little high to me...there are two kinds of taxis in San Juan, metered and set rate. At the airport, go to the dispatcher and ask for the taxis painted white and sporting the garita (sentry box) logo and "Taxi Turistico" label. They charge set rates depending on the destination; they run from the airport or the cruise-ship piers to Isla Verde, Condado/Ocean Park, and Old San Juan, with rates ranging from $6 to $16.

We stayed at Hotel Milano in 2001 pre and post cruise. It is probably has the best location for exploring Old San Juan. I recommend a meal at the nearby Parrot Cub. http://www.oofrestaurants.com/parrotclub/index.htm

It would seem to me that perhaps the most important consideration that no one mentioned is that the Golden Princess will be docking right across the street from the Sheraton Old Juan. You won't need a shuttle to the pier; you can walk!

Unless things have changed since last year when we were on the Golden, she does not dock in Old San Juan, but at the Pan American Pier, which is across the bay(?) from Old San Juan. There isn't anything closeby as far as hotels or restaurants near the dock. I believe the closest hotel is the Wyndham Condado, but would stay at the Marriott down the street or one of the hotels in Isla Verde. We stayed at the Embassy Suites. Loved the extra room with all the luggage we had.

Hi Linda,

According the the cruise calendar (linked below) the Golden will be leaving from pier 4 - E in OSJ as of Oct 29 (except in Dec. where it appears to be leaving from Navy Frontier). Last year we left from the Pan Am pier, but Princess has changed embarkation to Sat. from Sundays as in previous years. That could be the reason for the change. This info has yet to be confirmed by Princess, but a couple of posters from San Juan have verified this information.

If anyone else can confim this - please advise.

Thanks,

Kaye

That's old information that you're giving out. This has been posted by Lilrod:

"Well the Golden will be coming to San Juan on Saturdays and will be on pier 4 in Old San Juan in front of the Sheraton Hotel (old Wyndham). The Constellation and the Serenade will be on Saturdays but at the Panamerican Pier in San Juan but if you want to go to Old San Juan, you have to take a taxi. I work with a company that gives services to passengers of the Golden and we start on October 29 at the Pier 4."

What wonderful news for future Golden cruisers. Sorry for the misinfo. Might have to book another Golden cruise to find out for myself (at least thats my story and I'm sticking to it.)
