shertwo Posted March 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2016 Apologies if already answered somewhere, however I cannot find info. Getting off Cruise Ship in Southampton, doing day tour Salisbury, Stonehenge, Windsor, drop off in London, stay a couple of day in London. Now the question, the flight we need leaves from Gatwick -- so is it best to stay at a hotel near Victoria Station for ease of getting a train to Gatwick, will have luggage, is Gatwick Express train best option? Any recommendations of hotels in Victoria Station area that are still fairly central for siteseeing places/things to do? Cheers!

Any recommendations of hotels in Victoria Station area that are still fairly central for siteseeing places/things to do?You may find some general information in some of the following threads:-http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2326250 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2323773 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1976206 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1880938 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1857074 The Gatwick Express is probably the least hassle way of getting to Gatwick from central London, so the idea of staying near Victoria isn't a bad one. (There are cheaper options, including cheaper trains - but inevitably they are all at least a little more hassle than the Gatwick Express.) Victoria is relatively close to sights like Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, and of course no hotel in London can be close to all of London's sights because they are spread out over a wide area. There's some information in the first of the listed threads about days on which the Gatwick Express will not be running. If that's not when you'll be here, it would be worth your while checking your actual stay dates to make sure that you aren't making a plan on the false assumption that that service will be running on the day that you need it. John Bull Posted March 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Just to re-iterate G's post.................. Check that the Gatwick Express is running on the date you require - there's a programme of track upgrades which mean that there'll be periods when it's out of action. There are alternative direct trains from other London stations including London Bridge, Blackfriars and St Pancras. Hotels in Victoria are popular with tourists, a compromise between cost and convenience and a choice of large chain hotels & smaller privately-run ones. Near a tube station (incl at Victoria rail station) and ho-ho route would be handy, and near Buckingham Palace a bonus. JB :)
