The Great Barrier Reef

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We are going back to the Great Barrier Reef next year after experiencing a wonderful time on Radiance February 2016 at one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Quicksilver were AMAZING. We are doing a repositioning cruise to Singapore on Voyager.

I want to ask if anyone knows which company is used by Royal out of Cairns. I know they use Cruise Whitsundays out of Airlie Beach and Quicksilver out of Port Douglas.

The Great Barrier Reef experience should be on every Australian's bucket list. Just saying....

Just magical. My 16y/o daughter and I also did the helicopter ride over the reef. Amazing!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Cheryl

Maybe book it privately if you want to do a helicopter ride.

I have been to the Great Barrier Reef but with P&O. In my opinion from Cid Harbour it was a major disappointment. Coral dead and dull with little to no sea life and nothing interesting to look at. In contrast Curacao, Barbados, Apia, Noumea, Isle of Pines all took my breath away and had outstanding reefs.

I have heard there are good parts of the Great Barrier Reef to visit and bad parts. I would love to get all the details on the best parts to visit that actually have live and colourful coral and sea life and actually go there again.

I last went to the Barrier Reef in 2008 and I believe it was Fantasea Reefworld charter that P&O did from the Whitsundays. There was a pontoon out there. That being said it was right after some heavy rains and on the same cruise the Barron Falls waterfall at Kuranda was gushing down water to rival images of Niagra Falls.
