Schti Posted March 22, 2016 Author #26 Share Posted March 22, 2016 The train schedule can be found on Alaskarailroad.com. Thanks. If I am reading this correctly, the train makes just one trip a day from Anchorage to Fairbanks with stops and one trip back?
Schti Posted March 22, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted March 22, 2016 Also watch for your transportation issues in Denali, if you don't have a rental car. Can you tell me more of what your concerns are here?
mapleleaves Posted March 22, 2016 #28 Share Posted March 22, 2016 So -- if we plan to spend 2-3 nights in Denali without a car, what transportation options would you recommend for getting around? There aren't many options. As I said, you would need to stay at a hotel that offers lodging to/from the depot, and to/from the park entrance. (there used to a list of those hotels under the DENALI forum on http://www.tripadvisor.com. It may not be current but it's a starting point). The cruisetour hotels might be your only options. And the hostel has shuttle service if you don't mind a private cabin but shared bathrooms. Otherwise look thru the lodging list on the Denali Chamber of Commerce site and check each place. - the Denali Salmon Bake has a shuttle. Schedule is on-line - there is an expensive taxi service ... posted on the Chamber site Be mindful of the times of hotel/ hostel shuttles as they will determine when you can schedule the trip thru the park. After hours the Denali Salmon Bake can work but it doesn't always stop at the Wilderness Access Center where the park buses pick up/drop off. If you stay within a mile or so of the park, the Glitter Gulch area, you may even be able to walk to/from the park. ie from Princess lodge it's about a 30-40 minute walk.
