Footy on TV

Please Celebrity do not become a "P&O" - save us from the "Footy"!;)

That aside - thought (as I am not all bad!) I might mention that the Casino Bar TVs (they are actually placed at the bar up high as you face it) played sport throughout our TA cruise so assume that would be the place, if any, to watch football.

I was cross when I read your comment, until I noticed that you were from Scotland, where they don't have much interest in football. ;)

I just wanted to make sure that I didn't have to have a row with my wife about the cost of flying back from Iceland for the evening.

Both my husband and I enjoy the "Fitba" - just do not believe it belongs on a cruiseship. I think many a Scotsman would argue with you on that score. Why would I not like football simply because I am Scottish?

Each to their own I guess - if ever there came the day Celebrity turned into a P&O "Brit style" line - we will be off it for sure! There is a time and a place for "The Footy" and it would not be my choice to cruise on a line where it was shown widely in main lounges and big screens etc - Been there, seen that on P&O and wont ever ever be back.

As I kindly pointed out - you can most likely view it in the casino at the bar.

Good luck for your team!

Hope you don't think I'm anti Scottish. Apart from cruising most of my time on holidays outside Yorkshire have been spent in Scotland (FW, Ullapool etc)

In fact, come to think of it, our best player is one of yours.

I wouldn't expect it to be shown in the main lounges and Brodie's would be just fine, with a pint of John Smiths.

Sounds lovely - enjoy!

Funnily enough DH and I last weekend - (we work 24/7 self employed so this was a rare treat) were away at a hotel for the weekend. We had been in the cocktail bar for lunch- and I suggested to DH we went around to the public bar - (it was a typical "mans" public bar).

Feet up on the couches - spent the day - watching the football and medal ceremony, did in two bottles of wine (neither of us are beer drinkers) and munched a table full of home made nachos and dips - best day we have had in months - one of those lazy pub days - was so nice!

Have a fab cruise - keep us posted on the results and the outcome of whether or not you were able to watch :)

David

I have had a reply back from customer services that says

"The ship will be showing the big games however this is reliant to signal

and satellite"

So no guarantees but not an outright no.

On previous ships they have had a sports bar where they show sports channels on TVs screens. Not sure about celebrity Equinox so will need to investigate once onboard. If not if there is a sky sports news channel on room tv where we can keep updated on scores while enjoying a drink on the balcony then that's better than nothing.

Just need to make sure we don't upset any other guests with our rowdy behaviour when we score ;)

Looks like they will do their best for us. Not sure my wife's too pleased. Just realised that kickoff is 7.45 so she might have to eat alone, or eat quickly.

Thanks for letting me know

Maybe buy internet wifi that day and stream it on your tablet or laptop??

Good suggestion Margie

I did think about that but the only Internet package I can see is for the full trip. Also other posters have suggested internet speeds aren't good enough to stream live TV.

Will see what happens when I get onboard and if daily or even hourly packages are available. If we can't watch then it won't ruin the cruise. It would just be a nice bonus if we can :)

We were on the Reflection transatlanitic last month and the internet speeds were good, even in the middle of the ocean. They did offer 24 hour and hourly internet connections.

Thanks Margie, that's good to know. Hopefully it will be same on Equinox

  • 2 weeks later...
Over the 9 celebrity cruises I've taken English football gams have been very really seen... I've seen champions league games on a few occasions but only a couple of premier league games at best, although the play offs are huge in the uk I doubt there's much call for them outside the uk, it's a shame as they are normally great games to watch...

Fingers crossed for ya [emoji4]

surprise 2nd place in the end courtesy of the Toon Mr T [emoji41]

I have it on very good authority that Celebrity will not be televising England in the final of the Euros this summer , and highly unlikely they will show them in the semi's. [emoji33][emoji33]

Result David, the Owls are in the final :D:D

Things not looking so good for Derby though so may be watching on my own (assuming the game is shown)

Yes, great news.

Unfortunately Celebrity let me down. For the first leg they did indeed show football - some programme about highlights of the Premier League season.

Tried to get it on Nowtv but it wouldn't allow it outside the Uk. Resorted to checking the scores on Bbc website.

The second leg was even worse as there was not even a wifi signal so had to rely on a mate in Sheffield for text updates.

Next challenge will be tomorrow when I try to book tickets for Wembley. If the wifi goes down the I will be cross.

I would prefer Derby in the final but it's looking tricky.

Have a good trip

Yes I was going to ask, will they be showing Euros coverage? We will be wanting to watch Northern Ireland on our Reflection cruise in early June!!

Thanks for the update David, doesn't sound hopeful then for the final :(

Good luck for getting tickets and give them a cheer for me
