First cruise on NCL Sky - what do I need to know?

Help - cruised with RCL for years and was booked on the Empress March 30th which has been cancelled. I'm dealing with that rebooking for June but have just booked Sky (My first on NCL) for April 1-4 as I didn't want to deal with flight changes, etc. So - what do I need to know? Food? Shows? Have been to Nassau a number of times - no worries there. First time on Great Stirrup Cay....what should we look for? Any tips, suggestions, Ready....go!

Should be a great cruise. I love the Sky, even though it's a smaller ship. It would be similar to the Empress experience. Freestyle dining is the biggest thing on NCL ships. To get around wait times, go early, or late, not when the rush is there. Enjoy the observation lounge at the front of the ship. Don't order the Alaska Meatloaf, and enjoy your cruise.

Thanks clarkg, I appreciate the response. Small - no problem, Bahamas - been there....

We have never had Freestyle dining but were trying MyTime on Empress for the first time this (now cancelled) cruise. I have minimal time to read the boards and look for tips.

Again, thanks.

My first NCL cruise was on the Sky, solo and I had a good time. Good choice, enjoy.

I had my sail away lunch in a main dining room, fabulous start to the cruise. Generally enjoyed MDR. One night wasn't great and I was tired so I just had room service in my cabin as a replacement. Highly recommend the pub for food, sports viewing and fresh popcorn, lol.

Entertainment: parties were fun, piano player a hoot and fun music trivia. Stage show talent wasn't awesome and I found bingo really expensive. I had fun in the casino. No big wins, but enough to enjoy my three days.

Trip was over Thanksgiving and sea was too rough for tendering to GSC so we didn't go there. I took advantage of a spa special that day and was pleased ( massage, facial and can't recall other).

Sexy man contest was a family friendly hoot!

  • 2 weeks later...

I am leaving for a 4 day in a couple of weeks. First time on NCL and first time on sky.

Do people ever post their schedule of events for these cruises? Last time I went on Disney, people would post their daily boat scheduled activities. Although there was no guarantee that your cruise would have the same schedule (because shows change and such), it was still a good thing to early plan with. Like if I knew what time the main shows were, then that would help with making dinner reservations. anyways, is this something people don't post? Or is there are way I can find out the daily boat activities before I sail?

Thanks!

This may be a little late for you but maybe it can help someone. This is a thread I posted about 4 years ago. I wrote it specifically for the Sky in mind, over the years many people have added some really great things... Hope this helps.
