From what I read on other posts, you have to pay taxes for drinks while in port in Miami

realcindylouwho Posted March 25, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2016 when traveled out of new York, had ubp, and we were charged taxes on the drinks we had while in port before we sailed. is this also the case while in port in Miami? You titled this NCL SKY. If this correct, you have the OPEN BAR on the Sky. You will not be paying taxes on drinks once you get on the ship, not while you are sailing, not while you are at any port. Simply walk up to any bar, order your drink, thank the bartender after they hand it to you and walk away. The only time you may be asked to present your card is if you look young and they will swipe the card to make certain you are 21 and over OR to see if a parent has signed a waiver for those between the ages of 18-20. I was on the SKY 3/14-3/18 and this is how it works on the NCL SKY...currently.
Bacci111 Posted March 26, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted March 26, 2016 we had the ubp on a ship in new York, and were charged taxes before we sailed on all drinks purchased there. once we sailed, it did not happen anywhere else. it is a law in new York and apparently other cities, not sure if miami was one of them. adam_s_allen Posted March 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2016 It's not the UBP on the sky though. There is no price on the drinks. So no tax.
Bacci111 Posted March 27, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted March 27, 2016 so no swiping of the cards every time you order a drink?
adam_s_allen Posted March 27, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 27, 2016 No, they never once asked for a card.
adam_s_allen Posted March 27, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 27, 2016 However there are certain premium brands that the UBP covers but the sky charge you for. For example a drink made with grey goose was $5.
