Our ship overnights in Nynashamn - can we stay in Stockholm overnight?

Our family of 5 (my husband, myself and kids aged 9, 13, & 15) will be traveling on a Baltic cruise in August, 2016. Since our ship docks one hour away from Stockholm, it makes more sense for us to just book a hotel and stay in the city overnight and return the next day to the ship. However, our travel agent says the Cruise line said no, we cannot do that. Has anyone left the ship overnight and then run into problems when trying to board the next day? Is this allowed?

Why don't you contact the cruise line direct, they will be able to tell you. However, I really don't think an hour's travel is much.

I have stayed overnight in Israel, Egypt, and Istanbul - just check with guest services when you get on board - as long as you are back before the ship sails

We've over nited off-ship in a number of ports, but not in Sweden.

It doesn't just avoid duplicating travel, it also gives a rare evening ashore. :)

 

I certainly wouldn't simply accept the advice of a T/A saying it's not permitted.

But best to check with the cruise line - do it by e-mail & get the response in writing cos unfortunately if you phone an unsavvy rep might reply "no" rather than admit "I'm sorry, I don't know, I'll have to ask". Trust me - that can happen.

 

Do take your passports, you may have to show them at a hotel. If the cruise line holds passengers' passports (they often do) you'll have no problem "borrowing" them from Guest Relations for your stay in Stockholm.
