Houston Hobby arrival on day of cruise

For those unfamiliar with Houston and it's airports, and Galveston, here is a little map.

Notice towards the right down quite a' ways East, you will see the little sliver that is Galveston Island.

 

Notice quite up a' ways North, you will see IAH which is George H W Bush Intercontinental Airport.

 

In sort of the middle you will see HOU which is William P Hobby Airport.

 

The airports "in" Houston are not terribly convenient, but they are where they are and we are stuck with it.

 

For anyone who is paying to fly down here to take a cruise out of Galveston...

if at all possible come down a couple days early, stay on Galveston Island, and have a little mini vacation before you board the ship.

 

There is absolutely nothing attractive about the area around Hobby (HOU), nothing, seriously. Nor is there anything attractive around IAH, and it is farther away.

 

If you happen to fly Southwest they only fly to HOU.

Interesting SPacificbound. Thanks for the map. Since you seem to know something about the area....what is located on the Bolivar Peninsula? Is it homes or resorts? I am just curious. :)

Homes on stilts, eating places and outfitters for water related activities. It has taken major hits from hurricanes, little protection when mother nature and the sea take control.

 

It is certainly a different way of living, but those who live there wouldn't have it any other way.

 

I grew up on Mustang Island and North Padre Island which is further South down the coast of Texas.
