cinnam0n Posted March 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2016 To all who have done cave tubing - We will be in Belize next week and I really want to get pictures while hiking/cave tubing, but am a little leery about carrying my phone and taking the chance of getting it wet or losing it in the water entirely! Any suggestions? Maybe a disposable waterproof camera?
sun_belle Posted March 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2016 I was wondering the same thing. I am sure they will have photographers like all the other excursions for price.
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2016 Disposable waterproof would be your best bet, if you don't have an underwater camera and don't want to spend $200+ for a Nikon Cool Pix. Look for a DicaPac WP410 or a Fuji Quick Snap Waterproof. I think both are available on Amazon or at Walmarts.
Tree Hugger Posted March 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2016 speaking from experience, you WILL need one with a flash
shamrockace Posted March 30, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2016 I would not take a cell phone unless you have a waterproof case. Inside the caves are dark, and you use a mining hat to see. The water is very dark and cold and if you drop your phone, you may not be able to find it. Butt up! will be a phrase you'll hear often
oilfan63 Posted April 1, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2016 To all who have done cave tubing - We will be in Belize next week and I really want to get pictures while hiking/cave tubing, but am a little leery about carrying my phone and taking the chance of getting it wet or losing it in the water entirely! Any suggestions? Maybe a disposable waterproof camera? We did this excursion last year and I brought my camera along (in its camera bag). A few splashes is all. Got some great shots. If you've got a waterproof carry bag / fanny pack / etc it should do the trick. Preferably one with a strip you can hang over your neck. Your waist / butt / etc will get wet. I don't remember there being any staff photographers on our excursion.
Paul65 Posted April 11, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2016 I brought a waterproof camera (Fujifilm XP80) that had a flash, but it didn't really do all that well, because of the low light in the cave. I got a couple good pics of an area where you can see light streaming in from outside, but unless you have a camera that's really good with low-light pictures, the options for good shots inside the cave are limited. cinnam0n Posted April 12, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions! We ended up just taking an old phone that we didn't care about losing, and got some great pictures! Never even got the least bit wet.
davidmackv Posted April 13, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2016 I bought a Nikon cool pix waterproof camera for 75 bucks at Wally World and put a 64 GB chip in it. We use it to take pictures while snorkeling. It works great.
