Stockholm Hotels - which to book?

We are considering two Stockholm Hotels for our Pre-Cruise stay.....Sheraton Hotel & Towers(Tagelbacken) -and- Hilton Hotel Slussen(Guldgrand). Which would you book? Appreciate hearing from those familiar with these properties. Thanks - SeaFish

I have not stayed at either of them. I was going to stay at the Sheraton years ago, when it was brand new. They are both good hotels, go with the best deals. The Sheraton is very close to the trainstation, and just across the bridge from City hall. The Hilton property is on the other side of a bridge from Gamla Stan (old town). Stockholm City is compact and you are close to all attractions from both of these hotels. I would base it on price and if breakfast is included. Breakfast is usually very good at places like this, it's buffet style and most Americans consider it a brunch. Sharaton probably has a better rating. The Hilton is located on the South side (Södern), which is the hip and coming area of Stockholm. Have a great time!

We just ended a cruise in Stockholm and while we did not stay in either hotel, went by a few to look into for a repeat trip next summer. We are leaning toward the Hilton because it is much newer and a couple of people have spoken highly of it. The front desk at the Sheraton was very helpful, and they seem to be slowly renovating the rooms, but see if you can be more specific about the type of room you will get.

42trvl - Thank you for the info. We have already booked the Stockholm Sheraton based on various ratings and reviews...location...and price for room type we wanted w/KNS,Club Floor,Lake View & Breakfast. However - the Hilton Slussen was a very close second choice for us.

Since you have already visited Stockholm - what recommendations do you have for the "must see & do" things? Any other input would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance for your help. SeaFish

I just added something to an old thread so that it would be on this front page. It discusses what to do in Stockholm. It is a long, pretty detailed thread, so you should get some ideas of what to do. It has nothing to do with the Princess line of cruises, so it does not matter what ship you arrive on.

The thread is called "Princess Excursions - Stockholm Ice bar??"

The thread deals with the Ice bar, but it gets into what to do in Stockholm besides going to the Ice bar.
