Wheelchair process: Embarkation only - Port Everglades

Arranged for a complimentary wheelchair through Holland America for embarkation ONLY at Port Everglades.

The letter from Holland didn't make the process clear. For those with experience, where do I need to go or who do I need to look for when we get out of the taxi? I'm sure it'll be marked, but I like to be able to answer my party's questions beforehand. :)

Thanks.

Our TA makes the arrangements through HAL for me to have a wheelchair for embarkation and disembarkation days.

The rules vary at different terminals in Ft Lauderdale. Most of the time I go to the door and tell them that arrangements were made for me to have wheelchair assistance. Sometimes they come right away with one -- other times I have had to wait. Once I get the wheelchair, I am wheeled up to the check-in counter.

After check-in I am wheeled to an area where people who need assistance are placed. Sometimes I get to stay in the wheelchair, other times I have to sit in a chair to wait for embarkation to be begin. Sometimes we are given a number and sometimes we are not given a number.

When embarkation begins, staff from the ship come and wheel us onto the ship. Some times I am first. One time there was a new employee working in the terminal and she called rows instead of taking care of the wheelchairs -- total chaos.
