willieg Posted October 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2005 How is the Bus Turistic in Barcelona for the disabled? Hubby uses a cane and can manage a few steps. The bus looks like a good way for us to see the city. Please share your experiences with us.
strick1042 Posted October 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2005 Was in Barcelona in May, and we used the Orange Bus which goes around the whole city. The other 2 buses, red and blue, divide the city in half. I am in a wheelchair and it was great and cheap. Bill
DEL67 Posted October 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2005 I also responded to your question on the Europe board. The Bus Turistic is a good choice for wheelchair users. About 50% of the buses have ramps allowing wheelchair users to visit many of the tourist sites in the city without having to go to the expense of the accessible taxi. Traveling the full route also provides a good overview of the city. One caustion though. Be sure tostrap the wheelchair down. We did not and my husband's chair tipped over when the bus took a sharp corner. However, they may not be as good a choice for a non-wheelchair user who has difficulty walking. On the plus side they do leave you close to many sites and using these buses makes going from site to site easy and means that you do not have to try to communicate with cab drivers, some of whom choose to not understand Spanish. However, taking a taxi or even a public bus can be quicker because they do not take long loops the Bus Touristic do. For example, we went to the Spanish Village on our last morning in Barcelona before boarding our ship. It took us over an hour to get there on the bus. A taxi back to our hotel took less than 10 minutes. Note: The Spanish Village is not accessible. The main square is, but the rest of it is on various levels with no elevator.
