WeeCountyMan Posted July 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) Just back from our first Jet2 package - Thomsons (and others) need to take heed. 22kg luggage allowance and 10kg cabin baggage as standard, more legroom on aircraft seats and in some (many ?) resorts you can have your main hold luggage checked in, boarding cards confirmed, and bagggage taken away at the hotel on day of departure - you don't see your luggage again until you arrive back in the UK. What an absolutely great facility that is - no howfing heavy bags to and from coaches, or long queues at airport luggage check in desks. Magic - there is clearly a case (groan) for Thomsons looking at this for cruises and general package holidays. kate52 Posted July 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2016 And you can order an in flight meal! I know not everyone likes them, but better than being faced with "no food left" when the trolley finally gets to you.
Sheila49 Posted July 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2016 On our first cruise, which was on OV2, our airport check in for the return flight was done on the ship. The airport staff actually came onboard and did it in one of the lounges! This was in Heraklion, Crete, in 2009. Can't remember what happened with the luggage though. This is a good package as regards the transportation side and would be good if Thomson could do similar
Pensioncruiser Posted July 8, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Just what is the problem with flying Thomson to go on a Thomson cruise, this is not a flippant question as I have never been on a budget airline, but know that if a Thomson flight is delayed the ship will wait, what is the advantage of flying on one of these airlines other that extra luggage which you can purchase for a few pounds. I am not trying to be confrontational but would genuinely like to know!

I am not trying to be confrontational but would genuinely like to know! This is about package holidays in general, not specifically cruise bookings, although the latter does apply to Thomsons. The advantages - 1. No credit card fees. 2. More baggage allowance (5 kg above Thomson cruise deals) as standard. 3. More legroom on aircraft seats. 4. In certain locations, luggage is checked in at your accommodation on the day of your return flight, and boarding passes checked - you don't have to carry cases to/from transfer coaches and thereafter wait in long queues at airport desks. Pensioncruiser Posted July 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2016 Thanks for the info WCM. We have been fortunate this year with the bonded luggage as our last flight was to Barbados, which we flew premium so had plenty of leg room and luggage allowance, next one will be to Dubrovnik which again you don't have issues with luggage, will not be so happy next though as we have Palma, Malaga and Corfu:eek: Thanks again;).
