EDLOS Posted July 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2016 Looking at beverage cost on Norwegian website, can only find price for Ultimate Drink Package at $79/day and soft drink packages. Like to have a drink or two in cabin before dining, but not at mini-bar prices. Advice ?? Am I looking in the wrong place ?

EDLOS Posted July 19, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 19, 2016 I think this is what you're after. Courtesy of Gambee. Thank you for info ! Wow! Just got off Holland America where my 1 Ltr of Smirnoff Vodka with 3 cans of Tonic to my stateroom was $35.65 including gratuity !!! When a Cruise Lines perceives to gouge me, it causes me to think hard as I am thinking of booking Norwegian's 21 day Rome to Dubai in October. not because I can't afford $80 for a bottle of Vodka, but because it just leaves a bad feeling that where else am I going to get gouged. If I book it, I would probably walk on board with negative feelings. Or is it just Me?
GrabMyWrist Posted July 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2016 I don't disagree. There's no way in hell I'd pay those prices.
Richie2pies Posted July 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2016 With the prices, I don't travel NCL anymore. I'm platinum.

Advice ?? Am I looking in the wrong place ? Buy a drink at a bar and take it to your cabin is probably the cheapest option. But the mini-bar option probably costs about the same if you only want wine or a soda/alcohol combination.
lixogab Posted July 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2016 You can buy the Viva Vino pack: 4 bottles of wine $88 + 18%. Or you can bring your own wine and pay $15 per bottle. In both cases you can bring the bottle to the restaurant or bar.

txagfan Posted July 20, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 20, 2016 No one is paying $79 a day anymore...its to increase the gratuity I on the free UBP perk.
lixogab Posted July 20, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2016 Well, even you don't count the gratuity, the Free UBP is not so Free. The Free UBP is not offered for the GTY categories (IX, OX, BX) and the price difference between GTY and self-assigned room is several 100s. I doubt that anybody would pay $300-400 pp just to choose the room.

So yes I always pay the difference to choose exactly where my cabin is located before I get on the ship.

I got a balcony GTY BX interline rate and even with the 79pppd &18%=92pd I'm $500+ less then the category that gets the "free" UBP . I just have to decide if I'm going to drink 8-9 drinks a day on an AK cruise.

I just have to decide if I'm going to drink 8-9 drinks a day on an AK cruise. Right, in our case (we sail on the same cruise) the BX is $1000 cheaper than any assigned balcony. Regarding the UBP, don't forget that according the https://www.ncl.com/onboard-packages/beverage-packages: Beverage packages must be purchased for all guests staying within the same stateroom, additional stateroom, adjoining stateroom or travel with. EDLOS Posted July 21, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted July 21, 2016 Without UBP, we would probably look harder at other lines. Help me understand that at $79/day equals $1659 plus gratuity for my 21 day Rome to Dubai cruise would make you stay with Norwegian ??? You could drink your self into rehab on HAL for about 1/3rd of the cost.
don't-use-real-name Posted July 21, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 21, 2016 I think this is what you're after. Courtesy of Gambee. Bar Set-Up is not available for purchase on-board.Bar Set-Up must be pre-arranged before the voyage and can be requested up to the day prior to sailing. Prices are subject to change. A service fee of $3.00 per bottle will be applied. xxx Bar Set-Up is not available for purchase on-board Not necessarily TRUE - I did this a year ago on the Dawn could be variable by ship. I did this and my Butler said next time to order directly thru him ! xxx You can order your choice from the list by calling Room Service or if in a suite order directly with your Butler who will provide the garnishes and mixers. "Prices subject to change and add 18% greedy gratuity"! xxx Prices are subject to change. A service fee of $3.00 per bottle 18% Gratuity added. xxx Other than the greedy gratuity the bottles for the most part are liters. The liter is guess what 1/5th larger than a fifth ! With a fifth in your golf bag you can celebrate with 18 shots - one for each hole of golf (18 - 1.5 ounce shots =s a fifth). The 19th hole is in the clubhouse is measured differently not with standing your ability to play thru to this point. So a liter will or maybe will give you about 3-4 more shots. Thus a liter at a shot glass (1.5 ounce drinks) will provide about 22 drinks per bottle - the average bar drink is a 1.5 ounce shot (?) and goes for +/- $8 a drink. 22 x 8 = $176 (+ that gratuity thing) at the bar - the bottle from room service would be $121 ($100 x 18% + $3 svc chg) - thus you are about $55 ahead depending on how many shots or amount poured into your drink. And the best part the bottle stays with you in your cabin for your convenience ! Remember in closing YMMV based on how strong you pour your drinks and the drinks served at a bar how the bar tender pours the shots - the type of drink and how it is priced by NCL. Probably weak on those with the UBP and then again probably weak on those paying with their sail and sign account. Did you except NCL to give away the store ? After all this "I need a drink" - "make it a double" !
Demonyte Posted July 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted July 21, 2016 Without UBP, we would probably look harder at other lines. (Partly) because of the exclusions of UBP we are looking harder at other lines. It's the most expensive drink package among mass market lines and does not include bottled waters whereas competition often includes those in their standard packages that are often more than $20pppd less than UBP. hawkeyetlse Posted July 21, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Prices are subject to change. A service fee of $3.00 per bottle 18% Gratuity added. If you call ahead of time and order a bar set-up, the service charge is only $3 per bottle. They do not add a further 18%. If you purchase a bottle from a bar or room service on board, they add the 18% autogratuity (but not the $3 service charge). At least this was our experience in the distant past. We haven't had to bother with bar set-ups on NCL for a couple of years now. I don't know if the current prices per bottle are the same for pre-purchase vs. on board.
