Tour Guides - South America

Does anyone have any good tour guides at : Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia, Punta Arenas, Chacabuco, Puerto Montt or Montevideo?

I can recommend guides for Rio or Buenos Aires - sorry I don't know any for the other ports.

However, I'll add that Montevideo is relatively small and easy to get around, so you really don't need a guide there.

I don't think you really need a tour in Port Stanley. You can easily walk the entire town in about 15 minutes (more if you spend time in shops). When you get off the tender, there is a trailer right on the pier that sells tickets on the shuttle that will take you to the nature preserve where you should be able to see penquins. Our driver gave us quite a tour on the way out there and back. It was $10 in 2001.

We just walked around town in Ushuaia. Those who took the train were disappointed. There were many boat trips you could book right at the ship's pier, even without reservations. Most people who did this said they had a good time.

We use http://www.southstartours.com for Santiago, Montevideo, Punta Arenas, Buenos Aires and Rio. In Puerto Montt we used this company:

We were happy with all our tours.

We are using GV tours of Puerto Montt. Check their website at http://www.gvtours.com/. We have checked several references and they have good recommendations. We are thinking of using Turismo Viento Sur in Punta Arenas but have not confirmed yet. If anyone have used them I would appreciate any imput. Their website is http://www.vientosur.com/index.php

If you read my South America Review Jan 2 - 31 on this thread you will find my complete list of private guides for each of the ports that we visited on our 28 day cruise.

Plus of course you will see what they showed us and how we liked it by reading my review. They were all great with 4 being superlative!
