We are thinking of doing a deluxe 22 day China land tour next year, with includes a 3 day Yantzee River cruise, was wondering what is the best time to go and why - choices are April, May or October 2017.:)

Definitely avoid April and May. These are rainy months. October will be fine.

First week in October - must avoid, it's one of PRC's major national holiday, millions on the move - trains/buses/planes & HST will be packed with travelers ... even the 2nd. week. Many will be flocking to popular resorts & attractions, the affluent ones will be on the river as well, different river boats catering to different demographics will be sailing up & down streams. Lodging prices will be higher pre- and post-cruises to adjust to time-zone changes & jetlag, etc.
