mianjo Posted October 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2005 My husband has his sights set on going to the Casino in Belize CIty. Anyone else been there? We will be there in December on Carnival Glory.
Coral Breeze Posted October 29, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 29, 2005 The casino in Belize City is located at the Princess Hotel and Casino. It is less than 5 minutes by taxi ($3.50 each way). The casino does not open until noon Belize Time. The Glory departs at 5pm ship time which is 4pm Belize time. You will want to be back at the tenders by 3:15pm Belize Time. So you would have about 3 hours of play time at the casino. Sometimes 5 minutes is enough for me to be out of funds ;) Good luck!!
mianjo Posted October 29, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted October 29, 2005 Thanks Paul. Sounds like a go. I was worried about high cab fees but $3.50 is ok with me. Angie
CrusinAgain Posted November 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2005 Are taxis located at the ship tender piers and is it safe to go? I keep hearing stories to only go on a ship excursion due to safety. Yet, this hotel and casino appears to be really nice.
Susky Posted November 11, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2005 mianjo, do us a favor and post a review of the casino when you get back, okay? I'm interested in hearing how it compares to what's offered on the ship (or even compared to other casinos).
mianjo Posted November 13, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Tom, thanks for the great info! We get into Belize city about 8 am eastern time (ship time) so that will be 7 am your time (I think) That is a while before the casino opens. Any thoughts on what to do until the casino opens? We haven't found anyone yet who wants to go with us. We will be arriving on December 6th on Carnival Glory. I know my husband wants to find some Cubans to smoke! I wouldn't be opposed to going to mass. Do you have a favorite place for breakfast and lunch??? Susky, I will post a review when we get back and I am sure it will be a great one! CrusinAgain Posted November 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Hi there. I live in Belize City. There are loads of eager taxis outside Terminals 1, 2, and 4 at the Belize Tourism Village where you disembark from your ship's tenders. They are trustworthy, but especially look for the ones with "uniform" t-shirts, who usually belong to a union or association. But there is also the cruise ship taxi/tour guide association well dressed guys and gals INSIDE the terminals where you disembark. They wear white uniform shirts and will do the job equally well. In fact they also carry tours, so you are going to meet well organized people as you land in Belize. At the casino, there is the official taxi group with logo stickers on their cabs. They can bring you back for the same price. If they are not around the hotel/casino will whistle you up a cab. Good luck at the casino. I truly hope you win - and big time.!! It's a fairly large casino too, open from 12 noon Belize Time. They will also open if contacted, and there is a good enough group. Tom, thanks so much for your response. I feel so much better that someone from Belize responded and can put our minds at ease. This sounds wonderful and something we are really looking forward to. Husband wants to know if the casino has crap tables. Do you know? And if I win, it would be the first time unless you call 50.00 a big winner.;)
CrusinAgain Posted November 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Angie, too bad we were not going on the same day since we are also going to the casino. I'm just glad you posted about one being there or I would have never known since all I see is cave tubing, diving, canopy tour and ruins. Best of luck to you! mianjo Posted December 13, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted December 13, 2005 We enjoyed the casino in Belize City. The slot machines were of the older type and you must get tokens to play. I didn't win anything but had a good time. It was one floor and medium sized. I can't say much about the table games as I don't do that. My husband did play some blackjack. He spent a lot of time talking to the assistant manager. My huband is a pit manager at the casino here in Evansville. They had a great time swapping stories. Other than that I can tell you all that it was clean and the only thing different from a regular casino or the one on the ship was fewer table games and older slots. The security is tight but the staff was friendly. By the way we loved what we saw of Belize City and would go again. Angie
