Slots: Penny Multi-reels or traditional 3-reels?

What is with all the penny slots lately?? I just don't get it. I have to look forever to find a traditional 3-reel slot machine, which is what I prefer. I just don't like those penny machines at all. And I really don't get the popularity of them. Even land-based casinos have a plethora of penny slots and very very few traditional 3-reels.

So what is it about the penny slots that are so attractive? What am I missing here? Maybe I'm just too impatient to watch all that animation and stuff that goes on. Is that part of the appeal? Does the animation extend your playing time and make you feel like you're getting more for your money?

I prefer instant gratification. :D

Guess we think with all those ways to win, we have a better chance LOL. I remember playing traditional $0.25 slots Cost me $0.75. Now I play the pennies and pay between $3-4 dollars a pull... and have not won in a long, long time

I remember watching a TV show alluding to the fact that under the old 3 reel systems you either lost your entire bet or won some amount larger than the bet more infrequently than with these new video reels. On these, you can still bet the same $0.75 for example and have more wins, but those wins are in the $0.01-$0.75 range with most on the lower side. In the end, it gives players the feeling that they are winning more often, but the amounts are so small that they continue to play back.

I also agree on the bonus screens....I am primarily a VP player, but whenever I do play slots, I am focused on trying to get the bonus/free games feature...kind of how I measure which ones to play when taking a small break from VP.
