Go Go Folding Scooter

This is to anyone who already has a Go Go Folding Scooter. Thinking about one for my mom for cruising. Some of the ramps to the ships at embarkation and debarkation are pretty steep. Have any of you had any issues going up the ramp on your Go Go Scooter?

Going up and down the ramps is not a problem. All the ships have crew members to assist. Actually, I do not think they will allow her to go either way without someone to assist. On some embarkation or disembarkation days when they have the long switch back ramps with the minimal inclines or like bridges across, we can travel unescorted.

Have a wonderful cruise,

Betty

One of the issues with any type of travel scooter is not having sufficicent under clearance so that the scooter does not get hung up on the gangway joints. The crews initial response when that occurs is to just give the scooter a fast hard push . Please do not allow the crew to force push the scooter without placing it in "Freewheel" mode first . Reason being the motor can be damaged and render the scooter useless for the duration of the cruise. The scooter must be placed in "freewheel mode" and than the crew can assist pulling you over the gangway joints. Make certain before placing the scooter in freewheel mode that crew members are place in front of an behind the scooter steadying it so that you don't roll down forward or roll backwards on the gangway.

There have been a couple occasions that the incline of the gangway going up exceeded what my GOGO travel scooter could handle. In this case if you are able to walk up the gangway you're best to do that and have the crew pull the scooter in freewheel mode back onto the ship. If you're not able to walk up the ram than it's recommended that you transfer into a ships wheelchair and have the crew wheel you onto the ship while another crew member pulls the scooter in freewheel mode. Note for a scooter to sufficiently handle going up a ramp one foot of wheelchair ramp is required for each inch of rise. For instance, a 30 inch rise requires a 30 foot ramp which isn't always possible on cruise ship gangways when in port.
