Summit 8:30 PM Departure - Questions

We are scheduled to sail on the Summit on the Dec. 24 holiday cruise. The departure time from San Juan is 8:30 p.m. This brings a couple questions to mind:

 

1. How does that work with the muster drill? Usually the drill is shortly before, but that would be during dinner. Do they do the drill early, or does the dinner schedule change?

 

2. That is a later departure time than we've had for other cruises. Are we still able to board shortly before noon? (Let's be honest, we just want on the ship!)

Boarding time is the same. I know in Blu they give you an assigned time just for the first night because of the Muster Drill but we were able to change it.

San Juan is a great place to explore and a great place to start a cruise.

 

To answer your question: the Mustard Drill is between the Appetizer Course and the Entrée Course! :D

Just off the Summit last month and the muster drill was at 7:45. We just ate in the buffet that night but easily could have made our 6 pm dinner time.

We opted for the buffet that night, too, but mostly so we could be outside for sail away.

 

We boarded by 11am and were on board enjoying our drink package all day :). We had been in San Juan for three days before, so we did our share of exploring.

We just got off Summit and muster drill was 10 min after we finished dessert in Main dining room (6 pm). Btw having sailed numerous times on Summit request Chambi to be your waiter. He is best ever.

Muster drill started at 7:45 and took maybe 15 minutes. We opted to eat right after and missed sailaway.

Also, we arrived at the port by 11:30 and were on the ship by noon. It was super easy--hardest part was in the taxi trying to get into the pier area. Lots of traffic.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies! That helps us with our planning. I think we'll board early, enjoy the ship and the amenities, eat an early dinner, do the drill and enjoy the sail away. Can't wait...less than 4 weeks!

Having sailed out of SJU for years and the Summit multiple times be aware that if you want a seat in your required station go early. There are also some areas like the photo gallery that do not have seats at all.

We sail this Saturday on the Summit. Made a reservation for Select Dining at 5:45 so we have plenty of time for dessert before the Muster Drill at 7:45. Then we can grab a drink or two before sail away. Hope you have a fantastic trip!
