Diamond: Are Blue Jeans Ok on non-formal nights?

And I submit that if those fine restaurants at home pushed their dress guidelines rather than succumbing to whatever walks in the door, they’d probably go out of business. It’s the minority of customers that are pushing the envelope. I can tell you of conversations I’ve had with crewmembers who mourn the day that a more casual clientele started boarding the ships.

And regarding cruise ships being neutral zones, I submit that in fact they are melting pots where a number of cultures come together. I guess it’s too much to ask that those who represent my culture put some effort into personal appearance, but again, it does not go unnoticed.

geoherb, you are incorrect. On the princess patter for the diamond princess it clearly states that jeans ARE NOT allowed in the dining rooms.

On Diamond Alaska 5/15 the patter only says no shorts or t-shirts. Where did it read that on your patter please? There were so many on our cruise wearing jeans. Thanks.

While my husband or myself wouldn't wear Jeans to a "non-formal" night (we don't even bring them with us on a cruise), it wouldn't bother us if people showed up in them as long as they were clean and unripped. I would like to add that on several occassions, I have worn "longer length walking type shorts" with a nice top, sweater and sandals and been quite comfortable. My reasons for wearing the longer length shorts, is because I am comfortable, I could wear them at a fine restaurant (I live on the shorline in Connecticut) as long as I "dress them up a bit" and I really don't see any difference in wearing "longer length shorts" versus a short dressy type skirt. Whatever you wear, just please enjoy your cruise.

I think there must be more than one Pig Out Palace, Sharon. Sadly, this does nothing to improve the image of this state. (Oklahoma, state motto: Oklahoma is OK, now don't bogart them biscuits!")

This is such a confusing subject. The most expensive jeans out there, and considered in the highest fashion, are ripped, shredded, and look as if they've been doused in hydrochloric acid before being dragged through the cattle pens. There is some justice in it, however - someone stupid enough (ooooh, there's that word again!!) to pay more for their haute couture jeans than I paid for my tux will be sent to their cabin to dress appropriately while I'm enjoying my vol-au-vent A la Reine. Sweet justice!

BJAM I'm confused, do you mean that you watch out for people in jeans and then "snicker" about them? Or am I not understanding your point, because in my book that is at least as rude as wearing jeans in a dining room where the rules have been posted. But why should Princess state the rules and then welcome people at the dining room door with out sending the jean wearers back to change. Also I think it's my businss if I shower or not. How much of my trip can another passenger decide if I am " being proper" or not?
