Raisinette Posted December 31, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2016 Hello, I'm going to the western Caribbean for the first time in early February, and am wondering about mosquito's (I'm past child bearing age, so Zika is not a major concern). Should I anticipate mosquito's on the beach? How about near the jungle ruins? I'm going to post the same question on the Belize site, however any info would be greatly appreciated! Peery5 Posted December 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2016 We've been going to various ports in the Caribbean for nearly 20 years, during winter months, and have never been bothered by mosquitoes. Having said that we could have just been lucky or just in the right places at the right times. To ease your mind though it might be best to take DEET or another repellent to be on the safe side. Better to err on the side of caution. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Raisinette Posted January 1, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted January 1, 2017 Thanks for the info, I'll probably bring some repellant just in case... Happy travels!
Rare crewsweeper Posted January 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2017 Always bring repellent. But on a beach with wind, you won't find many mosquitoes, unless you are there late in the day nearer sunset, and even then most likely not.
milton333 Posted January 6, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Just FYI, there are indications that Zika can have an effect on the brain functions of non-pregnant adults, too, so I believe that mosquito-repellant should be in everyone's arsenal. http://newswire.rockefeller.edu/2016/08/18/zika-infection-may-affect-adult-brain-cells-suggesting-risk-may-not-be-limited-to-pregnant-women/
