Solo room are not always the best

Just checking what is available this month I came across NCL's Norwegian Breakaway sailing from New York on January 15 for a 14 day cruise.

But the price for a Solo Room is $1723 CDN.

On the other-hand the inside room which has more space is only $1291 CDN and an ocean-view room $1689 CDN!

Of-course that is without port fees and taxes.

Personally, since I enjoy cruises without being part of a group this looks good to me. Others will have different needs.

Earl, I have noticed the same. It seems the more popular the studios have become the prices have increased.

I would gladly take one of the other rooms and just go to the studio meet ups, which everyone is available to everyone anyways.

I hope the prices go back to what they were initially intended to be. More affordable for solos. I do love the studios and the fact that they are in a private area.

Keep in mind that the studios come with a perk. The guarantees of the other rooms don't and that is usually the low price you first see. Check all the room types because sometimes better deals can be found besides the studios. My last cruise I got a balcony guarantee WITH 2 perks for cheaper than a studio with one perk. Some gurentee levels have perks but the "X" ones don't.

In a few weeks I am going on the NCL Epic in a Solo Studio Room. Though I got it through the Casino at sea rep. I am getting a 4 night specialty dinning pkg and 2 shore excursions for a 7 day cruise with taxes, fees, and tips included for about $1200.00 USD. This also has access to a Studio lounge expressly for the Solo cruisers with coffee, snacks, and drinks which I will make full use of with the free UDP included in my pkg which covers all drinks up to $15 each! Any other room would require double occupancy or double charge for the fare! Rob

I saw the same thing on HAL (and there are no special perks for a single cabin). On the 2018 South American Grand Voyage the tiny solo OV cabin is $1500 more than its larger next door OV cabin with the single supplement.:confused::confused:

My 6 day cruise on the NCL Epic last year got me an inside room for $460 CDN before taxes. I am sure dining and shore excursions do not cost that much more.

But look up the example I gave for a cruise this year so you know it is based on present prices. The inside cabin is $432 CDN cheaper than going solo on the same cruise. I can do a lot with $432.

While last year I got an inside cabin for $460 CDN before taxes, another woman I was talking was doing a solo trip in a balcony room for $6?? (I don't remember the exact amount) but if I had known I could get a balcony so cheap while traveling solo I would had gone that way myself.

I think she booked earlier than me and there were no cheap balconies when I booked or so I keep telling myself so I will not kick myself to death. :)

The 4 night specialty dining pkg was $99 and the two NCL excursions together were $99. So everything else was about $1000.

Saw St. Thomas with the US Navy, but it has to be better on a cruise ship! Right? LOL

But you come back with a healthier body when you do the US Navy cruise, and you don't spend any time wondering what to do next. The officers will keep you busy, plus you do not pay for the cruise, they pay you to cruise with them.

What is wrong with that? :)
