Looking for a hotel near FLL airport

TrentS, I just booked the Ramada Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise port for two nights at $93/night. Now you have me worried about the part of town. Is this the hotel that you said is in a bad part of town? Thanks for any info.

Yes, it's not a nice place, and not in a nice area. There's nothing nearby to walk to, not that you should walk around in that neighborhood anyway. It's also a long way from both the airport and Port Everglades... You would be well advised to avoid all of the State Road 84 motels.

SE 17th Street is the best location for cruisers. SE 17th Street is a very safe area less than 10 minutes from the airport and just outside the entrance to Port Everglades with dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within safe easy walking distance of all the hotels...

SE 17th Street hotels. The last 3 are the "budget" hotels...

We have had a reservation at the Hyatt 11/25 for 6 months and our friends will be arriving 11/20 for the week. We are all coming from California. You said they are going thru renovations. Is this all hurricane damage...do you really recommend changing hotels? It's only for 1 night. Thanks for your help.

Teresa

No, it's not hurricane damage... Hyatt Pier 66 has been undergoing major renovations since last summer. They're completely remodeling the entire property, but as far as changing hotels, that's something you'll have to decide. Personally it wouldn't bother me for a night, but some people are sensitive about that stuff.

Jason- aren't we on the same cruise? Valor 12/4 out of Miami? My DH and I are taking Tri- county van service for $18pp from FLL to our hotel in Miami ( flying in day before cruise) - on the return trip we are renting a car and driving to FLL to stay at the Sheraton for our post cruise nite. Looking forward to the Rusty Wallace cruise!! Holly

I was thinking that since my cruise leaves from the port of Miami that I would just take a shuttle from FLL and stay in Miami instead. I have found more availability there and was wondering if anyone can tell me about the Embassy Suites Hotel Miami - International Airport. Is it in a safe are or not.

It's about 1/2 a mile from the airport. The area is not bad, atypical for an airport neighborhood. I attended a seminar there once and found it to be a decent property. ;)

Trent, Thanks for all your help. I am looking for a hotel either directly on the water taxi route or within short safe walking distance (even late at night). I see you recommend the 17th st hotels. How far is the walk? Are there some directly on the route that are not too expensive? I really don't plan on spending much time at the hotel. Thanks.

Bequia,

Thanks. Now if I could figure out a way to get from FLL to Miami by shuttle.

Piece of cake, Tri-County/Airport Express is your best bet ;) http://www.floridalimo.com/Pages/sharedr.html

When you arrive at the airport, collect your luggage and go outside the baggage claim area, lower level, curbside, contact one of our starters (customer services reps.) wearing a white shirt with "AIRPORT EXPRESS" in red on the back of the shirt and an emblem on the sleeve and over the breast pocket. Let the starter know what service you are interested in and he/she will assist you.

Tri County Transportation/Airport Express service is available for all arriving Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport passengers

Holiday Inn Express and Extended Stay America are both about 2 blocks from the Water Taxi stop. They're most likely going to be the least expensive ones that are close.

Marina Marriott and Hyatt Pier 66 both have their own stops, but would be quite a bit more expensive on most dates. Bahia Mar on the beach has it's own Water Taxi stop, yet is still close to the port.

It's not the best neighborhood, but it's okay. There's not much around that hotel to walk to though, just a Bennigan's. I would take Tri-County/Airport Express' shuttle to downtown Miami, and stay there. Then it's just a 5 minute cab ride from any of the downtown hotels to the Port of Miami. Most Miami cruisers stay downtown and spend the evening at Bayside Marketplace. It's a lot nicer than being stuck out by the airport.
