If you need sea sickness patch

FL Donna

Just a quick note to fellow motion sickness cruise people. Our cruise is coming Dec. 03 and I called the doctor to get my prescription for the patch. (This is a must have for me or I can not cruise.) While trying to get it filled I found out it is on back order from the drug companies, and has been back ordered for at least a month. So it is very hard to find. I am not sure if this is a problem all over or just here in Florida. Anyway if you are cruising soon and need the patch I would advise looking into it real

soon.

Same here in NY...I had Walgreens looking for it since my last cruise in June. I finally found one pharmacy with one box left. I get motion sick if I walk too quickly :( I find Bonine works GREAT too. I don't know if there are different kinds of patches, I was prescribed "Transderm". FYI...I found mine at the pharmacy inside of King Kullen (supermarket). It may be a good idea to check supermarket pharmacy's, not too busy???

Good Luck!

Donna,

I am a Pharmacy Tech here in Texas. Last month we had a patient with a rx for the patch (she has vertigo). We ordered it from our supplier, yet it would never be in the order that would come in. We finally called our supplier, and they told us the maker had discontinued making it, and they had nothing else to substitute for it. I know right now, we can no longer get it. I know when a drug comes out on the market, the maker holds the patent for 7 years (but they can drag that out too), so I don't know the legalities if some other company can make something similar or not. So if you can find a Pharmacy with it, grab it!

I have a cruise coming up in January, and I am glad I went ahead and got my patches for it early last summer! As soon as I lose sight of land, I get soo sick!

our supplier, and they told us the maker had discontinued making it,

I called the "Contact Us" number (1-800-452-0051) listed at www.transdermscop.com, and Holly said there had been a delay in production a few months ago (same thing happened a few years ago, also), but that production and shipments are now normal.

BTW Karshrimp, you'll be on Rhapsody the week before us. Don't drink it all!

Does anyone know if they still keep sea sickness meds at the Purser's desk?

Is it the kind that makes you tired? The only time I need it is when I have an excursion that requires a small boat ride in the ocean (Stingray's).

Thanks.

OK that was a good one kewlguy!!!!!!!!! I might agree if it was not for the fact of suffering all kinds of embarrassment vomiting at chops and trying to pass out on them and having to be be wheel chaired down to infirmary to further be humiliated by having to get a shot in the butt. All this after planning this cruise for 1 1/2 years. Bonine did not really help. That was our first cruise last Oct. We decided to try one more short get away cruise. I took the patch. No side effects at all. I was able to even drink. I am a light drinker. Now the casino is another story!!!!! So we will be on the Jewel Dec.3. We are so excited. I feel like a little kid again. The anticipation is driving me to drink and gamble and to want to eat LOL.

I am happy to report I was able to get the prescription filled at a grocery store chain. It took many phone calls. I was on my way to a meeting.DH was resting in bed. He was so wonderful to let me roust him out of bed and go across town to get the prescription for me. He remembers how sick I was. He is also ready for the casino. Unlike me who donates to them he wins.

Oh yes, I remember the manufacturing problems that happened a few years ago. I tried every pharmacy within 50 miles of our house and nobody had any patches left in stock. Honestly considered canceling our cruise, except DH & DD's said they were going with or without me.

Reluctantly my doctor referred me to a "pharmacist" (?) who still concocts prescriptions by hand. He reproduced transderm scop's formula and put each dose into a hypodermic needle. Then every day, I "injected" the contents of one needle onto a round band-aid and stuck it behind my ear! It worked great...and believe me, I could have sold them for a pretty price to other passengers. Needless to say, I made sure I carried with me a detailed letter from my doctor explaining what was in those needles and why I needed them!

Yes, I also was referred to what is called a "compounding pharmacist", and thank goodness. The gel scop that he prepared (just as yours was) was a lifesaver until the regular patch production resumed.

For some of us, medication is the only answer...home remedies don't work, and it's not worth having a cruise spoiled by motionsickness.

Sign me,

Years of experience after trying everything!

I was given 6 bonine tablets at the pursers. It did not make me tired at all and I had no side effects from them.

We live in Pennsylvania, and my DH uses the patch regularly all summer, as we have a boat on Lake Erie and he is there every weekend. We have never had trouble getting his prescriptions refilled, but when I read about all of the problems people were having, I called in his refill yesterday for our upcoming cruise next month. Today I picked it up with no problem. Maybe the shortage was/is regional, if that makes sense.
