Has anyone used Verizon International short term plan

The least expensive would be to order a FreedomPop sim. This would work fine in Italy, I used mine there last summer. The Verizon 5s will work, I used the sim in mine. You have to change SIM cards when you get the FreedomPop sim and have to set a couple other parameters to have internet work but if you can't do it a tech savvy friend can set it up for you before you leave and it should be ready as soon as you turn it on in Italy. You will get a new phone number but it can be a us number and you will have it before you leave. One advantage with a different number you don't get calls from people you don't want to talk to while on vacation. The easiest thing is to pay Verizon $10 per day which allows you to use phone texts and data just like you were in the US according to your plan, you only pay for the 24 hour period you actually use something but a single random text incoming or incoming call will start the $10 clock for that day.

I have an older iPhone 5s with Verizon. I'll be traveling to Europe and would like to know the least expensive way to make phone calls or text in Italy. I'll only need it for about a week. Im not very tech savvy, but any help would be appreciated.

 

Call Verizon and explain what you need and ask for their suggestion(s). Make notes and be sure to call at least a couple of times so you have a chance to hear the explanations and suggestions from more than one rep. Good luck. :)
