BettyB2 Posted November 11, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2005 This has been posted on SJ boards and we have not received many responses. We will be there on Dec 5th from 5-midnight and plan on early dinner onboard and then hoping for carriage ride before we hit a bar/casino or two. Do you know how long they are available? Will we be able to get one around 7:30-8ish? thanks
serene56 Posted November 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2005 That is exactly what we did. Pulled into port about 5- we stayed on the ship for dinner. Then we ventured out to the port. What we did was go to the end of the pier and turn left. there is a vistors center there. across the street there is a place (i forget the name) they sell rum and give away frozen slushie rum drinks. very good and free. Keep walking to the end. beautiful fountains and then the ocean. Beautiful . there is a wall around that part of sanjuan and you can walk up to the little tower and see what early settlers seen while protecting their land. when you get to the end-- you will go right and see the fortress there. Huge doors. Beautiful. then we windowed shopped. We then headed back to the ship and thats where the carriages were. Yes, they will be there about 8-9. They wiull be there most of the night

DFritz Posted November 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 13, 2005 When we were there last year we asked at the carriages and I think they told us $100. but I'm really not sure. I do know that it was more expensive than we anticipated.
serene56 Posted November 13, 2005 #9 Share Posted November 13, 2005 $100??? wowsers. I didnt pay that much. I am thinking it was 20 bucks. Im very cheap with my money. It was also a ride for about 1/2 hour- 45 mintues. I am wondering if he quoted you 100 for a few people instead of 2? or was he gonna take you far away? BettyB2 Posted November 14, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 14, 2005 WOW - I would NOT pay $100, but would consider $20 pp!! Anyway, I need to thank Serene AGAIN for her advice. I printed out your last post to me and Dave and I will take the route when we get off the ship. Thanks so much!!:D HMMMM - wonder if I could get some advice on St. Martin from you (I know this isnt the right board...BUT...have to check);) thanks again
serene56 Posted November 14, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2005 St MArten---sorry- we jsut shopped. Found this port to be the cheapest about for us. Cigerettes were 9 bucks a carton. (be careful cause they are class "B" smokes. St Thomas-- http://www.godfreytoursvi.com best 20 bucks I ever spent on an excursion. Using his guide-- I got the best of everything, shopping , an island tour and beachtime.
BettyB2 Posted November 14, 2005 #12 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Thanks again. We are already scheduled to do Godfreys with 14 other CCers when we get to St. Thomas..cannot wait!! :D Are you limited on the amount of cigarettes? I have friends who would LOVE the $9 price-tag!! I will just have to do more research on St. Martin. thanks
serene56 Posted November 14, 2005 #13 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Cigerettes coming back from Eastern caribbean you are allowed 5 cartons one of which must be purchased from St Thomas. The further out you go in St Marten the cheaper it is. Dont buy them at the pier stores..head in a block or two. We even found a store that sold off brands like PallMell and camels
Coolmama_1 Posted November 18, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 18, 2005 When we were there last year we asked at the carriages and I think they told us $100. but I'm really not sure. I do know that it was more expensive than we anticipated. They have different prices for different tours and lengths of rides. I am pretty sure it is more like 30-50 per carriage and I think they will negotiate.
