Sometimes you can put a courtesy hold on a cabin, but sometimes not. Why?

Wondering why you can sometimes put a courtesy hold on a cabin, but sometimes not?

If it is a high demand sailing or close to sail date, then they don't allow holds. I had that happen before and asked my PVP.

You can call Carnival and see if they can do it for you. We did this on the cruise we booked for March. It wouldn't allow the hold online, but when we called they could do the hold for us and then it showed up online when logging in.

I could not do this for a cruise in August 2018

so I deposited who i could and added a person when i came up with the other deposits
