dorothy09 Posted February 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Story and picture on Google that there has been an arson attack on the boardwalk in Bequia. At least they seem to have managed to patch it up quickly. Dont think Thomson are going there again. Storms had damaged the walkway when we were there in January but it was still passable with care. Thought it was a lovely little island and had a pleasant drink at a beach bar with a couple of fellow cruisers. Quite enjoyed the tender ride in too. jake 26 Posted February 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2017 That is a shame. We are due there in April on Discovery so we hope it still goes ahead, particularly as it is one of the islands we've not visited.

Pensioncruiser Posted February 28, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Thanks for posting that article good to know. Some of the locals at the far end do object to visitors walking past and leaving litter ;)

dorothy09 Posted February 28, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Boardwalk is only a small part of walk to St Margarets Beach. The rest is along a ledge, very narrow in parts, and the sea comes over the top in some areas and makes it slippery. Decent footwear is advisable. When we were there some of the ledge was damaged, hopefully it has been repaired. Must be last year Thomson go to Bequia, it is not on our itinerary for next January, we go to Kingstown instead. JunoAtSea Posted March 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2017 We were on Bequia a week ago, and just took a water taxi to the beach and when we saw the boardwalk we were pleased we had done so. $20 two people return, just us, no waiting for others to fill the boat, picked up at the time we had specified. Sorry to hear Thomson will not be returning there, we thought it was the best place on the itinerary.
dorothy09 Posted March 15, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted March 15, 2017 Fully agree, we loved Bequia. Guess tendering in etc presents a problem. We are older people and made a brave attempt to traverse the boardwalk, but my partner has a dodgy hip and the narrow sloping ledge towards the end proved just too much as a slip could have presented problems. Lovely little bars and it had the idyllic feel of a true Caribbean island. Did hear a few moans though in the queue for return tender trip to Discovery and things did look a little pricey but glad we had the chance to go there.
