A thread on the Celebrity board does a beautiful job of describing why so many of us love cruising. Here's a link - Favorite Moment of Any Cruise.

For those new to cruising it's worth reading if just to get in the mood for taking the plunge.

The most poignant post in the thread is #104, to wit:

Such a pleasantly happy thread! One feels the spirit lift. Once this past Holiday Season, one on the songs helped me realize some of my best memories are from travel with family and friends, and specifically from cruising. Below I have tried to weave some of the various posts into a poetic form:

These, My Favorite Things

No, not walking the plank off the ship

Into dreaded shark infested waters

We are instead walking the gangway

Onto our vacation getaway

The bing of the seapass reader

The welcoming smiles in the milling crowd

Unpacking and putting away the luggage

The moment after the frenzy

yes, we are really here

The rumble from the massive engines

sending the vibration through the

drink you are holding on the balcony

The huge horn blows

Signaling today's judgment

we are granted a boon

Mainlands and islands slide away

"ready"

Serene sunrise walks on golden decks

Quarter moon minaret prayer calls

Souls awake

Watching the roiling wake

Alaskan whale breach

Fine sand Caribbean beach

A legend watches you drain the putt

Bagpipe sail away

Passed tiki huts and green island homes

Formal night finery vibe

The allure of our anniversary kiss

Bubbly champagne toast

While a conga line family

dances by

The late night top deck stroll beneath

the dreamy Milky Way

Morning docking in the tropical bay

Marimba band welcome

Discovering champagne reef life

In the distance, a glimpse of my ship

A grand Santorini Solstice

Some of the moments

Some of the impressions

These fleeting and permanent memories

Some of my favorite things
