Anyone out there with an allergy to SESAME that's cruised Carnival?

We will be cruising Carnival Sunshine next month and we know that the MDR can accommodate for food allergies. My husband has one food allergy, sesame, and this will be our first time cruising since developing this unwanted allergy...and he LOVES to eat! We are wondering if any cruisers out there with a sesame allergy have any suggestions on the other places to eat on Carnival ships....ex. Guy's Burger, pizza, deli, etc. I know this is a long shot, but trying to get as much info as possible before cruising. Thanks.

We know people who travel with odd allergies/intolerances. One was grapes and the other was Chlorophyll, i.e. nothing green, no herbs, etc.

Sesame seeds aren't in/on too many things onboard.

My basic allergy post...

We travel with a group that combined has allergies to peanuts, treenuts, shellfish, egg whites, chocolate, MSG and liquid dairy. Only had issues with 'user' error, no issues with Carnival. If you have a nut allergy, know that Carnival classifies seeds as nuts.

If you have an odd allergy contact Special Needs before your cruise. If you have a 'normal' allergy no need to do so.

See the Hostess at embarkation when the Maitre 'd has hours. Hours will be in the FunTmes, usually starting around 1pm. The hostess will take that night's order. Each night the hostess or your waiter will bring you the next day's MDR menu-breakfast, brunch/lunch and dinner. If deciding between two entrees, order both. For brunch don't hesitate to order a breakfast and lunch if you want to eat both meals in the MDR.

For room service, they cannot make special for you but they can tell you the ingredients. No special area so there is always the possibility of contamination

Buffet is a minefield. Ask the Hostess or the Head Lido Chef or the Food and Beverage crew in the officer whites. DO NOT ask the line cooks or those serving desserts. They mean well but do not know the full recipes. Cross contamination is always a possibility.

Onshore--- we bring allergy cards. I made our own but you can buy some at selectwisely.com.

You can only bring off commercially prepared food. We bring cereal bars, boxes of cereal, bottled water, hard candy etc.

Many ports will check. Some will do a physical search, others use dogs. You do not want the cute Labrador to sit next to you. I've had them alert on my Lemonheads.

Kids clubs have a form to fill out. There are some snacks served at times. The younger kids meet up at the dinner buffet certain nights. Ask the counselors what's on the menu.

Thanks for the responses. We know they will take care of dietary needs in the MDR. We were just wondering if anyone had issues eating any of the foods at Guy's Burger or the other eateries on the ship. We know we have to avoid the oriental restaurant.

Ask the Lido managers or hostesses about the Buns. Do not remember ever seeing seeds on cruise line hamburger bun.

I have a serious sesame allergy so in addition to bringing my epi pen and some Benadryl, I always make sure that I let my waiters know. At the buffets I avoid anything that is of Asian cuisine and will ask about any sauces that might be used in chicken, etc.

Thanks for the advice...this will be our first time traveling since having this serious allergy which developed a year ago. Did you eat at Guy's Burger Joint by chance or in the deli? Just wondering if the buns/bread they use have sesame in them.

Sorry to keep asking you questions...but this allergy has thrown us for a loop since we like to travel and are now hesitant to do so. Any suggestions on places/cruises/all inclusives that you have traveled that worked with you on having a sesame allergy that you would recommend?
