Can you PAY for an upgrade when checking in?

Has anyone ever paid for an upgrade upon check-in?

We are currently booked in an obstructed view cabin for our TP cruise in August (just upgraded from inside). We would love a balcony, but funds just aren't there (with all the excursions booked!) - yet. We were wondering if there would be an opportunity to upgrade once we get there if we find that we can splurge a bit more?? Of course, if there were balcony cabins available.

Thanks!

If the ship isn't sold out and they have categories higher than you, then yes, you can upgrade. General rule of thumb is the cost is at retail (that high number you see in the book) for category minus what you paid. Princess is very known for upgrading 7 - 10 days out to help fill ships, so chances are they won't have any rooms above you. Plus, it's cheaper to do it now at a discounted price.

yes, if it is available but it may be brochure rates, be REAL sure you want it. I would consider a fat bribe first.

Just ask upon check-in and you'll be given those options then.

Been upgraded at the pier many times, you can justify for yourself if it's worth the extra $$$

All the Princess ships I've been on have always had a sign at embarkation stating that all the cabins were full and no upgrades were available for purchase. I wouldn't count on there being any upgrades available for you to purchase at the pier with Princess.
