albucchi Posted April 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2017 My wife and I will be in port in Naples on June 27th on NCL Epic during the Festa Sant'Andrea in Amalfi. We would really like to tour the Amalfi coast, but is this a bad idea? Traffic is typically bad, but adding a festival seems like a recipe for disaster. Should we do Capri, mosey around Naples or take our chances on the Amalfi coast? https://www.positano.com/en/c/redazione-positano/v/SPJUS
euro cruiser Posted April 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2017 If the Amalfi Coast is really what you want to do, don't let this local festival stop you. If traffic is your chief concern, travel along the coast by water. You can take the train to Salerno and get a ferry from there to several towns along the coast, then continue throughout the day traveling entirely by water. At the end of the day there's a 4:25 PM ferry from Sorrento back to Naples, arriving at 5:10 PM. To make this ferry you would need to travel by land from Positano as the afternoon ferry from Positano to Sorrento doesn't get you there in time. You could travel in the other direction, starting with the 9 AM ferry from Naples to Sorrento (arriving 9:45 AM), followed by the 10:30 ferry from Sorrento to Positano (arriving 11 AM). From Positano onwards to Amalfi (and other towns) you have several ferry options. Returning by train from Salerno there is a 5:12 Frecce train that arrives at 5:50 PM. If you have a 7 PM departure that gives you plenty of time to take the metro back to the port for a 6:30 all aboard time. http://alilauro.it/orari-e-tariffe http://www.travelmar.it/it/orari
