Queen of Adventure Posted November 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2005 Is it possible to get a cab to and from the Pier to Hanauma Bay? If not, what is the best/easiest way to get there?:p Thanks!
bug_dan Posted November 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2005 It certainly would be possible however the price might be a little high. This site gives some examples of cab fares and they say from Waikiki to Hanauma Bay would be $25. Add another $10 plus from the pier and you're talking about $35 one way. JMO but car rental is probably the easiest. http://www.charleystaxi.com/services.html and a bit cheaper than a taxi. Cars can be picked up at Ala Moana locations and they have shuttles from the pier to those locations. Another alternative would be theBus at http://www.thebus.org That would be the cheapest or you could try something like "The Duck" Hanauma Bay tour. http://www.hawaiiducktours.com/ You would have to confirm that they will pick you up at the pier. Last year we went on their Pearl Harbor tour and they picked up at Pier 7, just a short walk from either pier 2 or 11.
Queen of Adventure Posted November 22, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted November 22, 2005 Thanks, Dan. I think we are going to bite the bullet and rent a car, hope for a parking availability (I understand you can't get into the bay once the parking lot fills for eco reasons), and see a little more of the island:p
bug_dan Posted November 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2005 To increase your chance of getting into Hanuma Bay, you want to get as early a start as possible, not always possible from the ship, I've also heard of folks having success arriving later in the afternoon. Anyway wanted to post this for you, a nice guide for a circle island tour. If you wanted to go to the bay in the afternoon, you might just go counterclockwise on the circle tour. http://www.alternative-hawaii.com/drives/oahu/ci.htm Not sure why they left Pearl Harbor off the list???? We've done that same drive several times and they are almost exact on the 4 hour driving time. The roads for most of the way are two lane and if you are traveling the North Shore during surfing season, it's going on now, traffic can get to be bumper to bumper along Sunset Beach etc.

We will be in Oahu over Christmas after our cruise and have a few days without any plans since a lot of businesses will be closed - this would be a nice way to spend the day - even if we only drive by the places that are closed :D
gacruising Posted December 10, 2005 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2005 Hanauma Bay is great snorkeling! We rented a car and got there early. You can rent equipment there also. We stopped and picked up lunch from a fast food place and had a nice picnic. The trek up and down to the beach can be challenging for some. I believe they had a little jittney that would get you up and down. If you decide to rent a car, remember to plan enough time to return it. This is especially true if you are going to be late in the afternoon. Honolulu has rush hour traffic and it can take considerable time getting back to your ship.
